Rumors about Hulu international have been being spread since the launch of the site. Even today, when you type "Hulu international" into the search engines you get blog posts from back in 2008 and 2009 talking about Hulu Australia, Hulu UK, and Hulu Canada. Hulu has had the same message posted on their since soon after the official launch in 2008
"Hulu is working on providing its videos internationally but content rights issues will take time to work through. Eric couldn't provide any time table for when we might see Hulu available internationally"
It's now halfway though 2011 and the message hasn't changed at all. Hulu international has sparked a few "fantasy" or "conspiracy theory" type blogs where people keep track of who's buying "Hulu in Canada" domains, and speculated news about which Australian TV stations are working together or working against Hulu coming to their country.
Despite all these Hulu international fan sites, the fact is that Hulu has not yet brought their services to anywhere outside The USA, and if they ever do, there are a few things you might not have though about.
The same controversy surrounded Netflix before in came to Canada a few years back When the announcement was finally made that Netflix was going international and it was starting by opening Netflix Canada, you can bet that Canadians were psyched. However they were very quickly disappointed when they found out that because of all those distributions rights and copyright agreements that vary from contract to contract, the Netflix database in Canada was much different than the American version. Though Netflix was now officially available in Canada, there was still a very high demand for the original version.
The same thing would happen with Hulu. There might be a Hulu international in the future. There may be a Canadian version or a Hulu: Australia, but it's definitely going to be different from the original Hulu. There's going to be fewer TV series, fewer TV shows, and fewer movies. One of the best things is that Hulu is free - Hulu international may decide to discontinue this Free service to users outside The USA.
So you can bet that Virtual Private Networks to get an American IP address are still going to be popular among Hulu fans around the globe. With a temporary IP address provided by a VPN server, you don't have to wait for Hulu international. You can access Hulu outside The USA today.
