Every so often a celebrity does a good deed and it goes unnoticed... Sound familiar?
Well if you're on Facebook then it should, because everyone and there mother have been posting this story and sharing it. Now there is some truth to this story but it is something that happened over 7 years ago now and there is some controversy all over the internet about it so here's the scoop...
This is one of those times when the headlines failed to mention a good deed by none other than Denzel Washington I think everyone should know about regardless of age.
I had not recently heard about this until a few days ago on Facebook but when I did it hit home for me being in the military and would like to share it with as many people as possible as I see it deserves recognition (even if it happened years ago).
Washington’s family visited troops at Brook Army Medical Center San Antonio Texas in 2004 and did something you don’t hear about too often.
This wasn't his first visit either, Washington had visited this same instillation and took part in a purple heart ceremony that same year handing out medals to our warriors.
On every military installation there are hospitals for those who return from battle injured and on this particular base, BAMC (Brookes Army Medical Center). Fort Sam, San Antonio Texas is where soldiers who are evacuated from Germany come, namely burn victims.
Adjacent to these buildings are what are called Fisher House’s.
The Fisher House’s on base are hotels in which a soldiers family can stay for little and in most cases no charge while their son or daughter wounded from battle is treated at the hospital close by. Although every base has one or more, in this case there were a few yet still had been filling up rather quickly.
Anyway upon touring the base and going to one of the Fisher House’s personally meeting with President David Coker, Denzel Washington noticing the lack of vacancies had asked how much it costs for a Fisher House to be built…
He told told Fisher House President David Coker he would like to pay the full amount for another one of these instillation's to be built and in the months to come he did eventually donate these funds.
Although the price was never disclosed as to how much he eventually wrote a check for, a Fisher House is estimated at $1.5 million dollars!
Now who really cares if he didn't actually write the check on the spot or not as this is what seems to be the big argument is about this story (truth is he doesn't even carry a checkbook). The point is that he did in fact fund a new building.
With this great deed of paying it forward having the power to do something and acting on it, more family members of those serving our country will be allowed a place to stay free of charge while their loved on recovers.
This is not the first time, and will probably not be the last that Denzel Washington will donate a large sum of money for good cause either.
This was awesome to hear about yet sad at the same time because of the fact that seldom knew it happened at the time, or better yet the truth to this story as emails that are flying around about this are hyped up 7 years later.
So riddle me this, why are all the headlines in the news that are making front page about stars like Alec Baldwin Sean Peen and other Hollywood types with all their anti-American everything mumbo jumbo and this story only goes as far as the base newspaper in San Antonio?
Nothing since has surfaced in the news, but after digging this information up I needed to share this controversy that has been going around.
If this warmed your heart to hear too I ask that you please like the article and share it with your friends and family as I have. With our spreading the word enough maybe other people with this kind of money will think about doing the same, who knows!
