VPN for Nigeria

Even in countries like Nigeria, where internet censorship is not a prevalent force, people’s freedom of speech is not as guaranteed as it appears, and there are risks that censorship will develop into a much more significant force.

For users in Nigeria, it is very important to find ways to protect your privacy online, because you cannot rely on government to protect your freedom online. Through a VPN for Nigeria, you can ensure that you have control over your online identity, and that you are protected, regardless of what the future holds.

Nigeria does not have any laws that restrict what people are able to say on the internet. Despite this, people have got in trouble for posting their viewpoints online. An example of this was in 2008, where two people were arrested because they posted photos and articles online that were critical of the government.

Now personally, I find it concerning when citizens do not have the right to question and to criticize. After all, these behaviors are simply part of human nature and questioning those in power helps to reduce corruption.

In 2012, there was a concerning development for Nigeria in terms of internet freedom. Traditionally, there has been no censorship in Nigeria. However, in 2012, there was a meeting of the International Telecommunication Union, where some governments sought to raise the level of regulation and censorship of the internet. This meeting resulted in the development of a treaty, which was signed by 89 countries, one of which was Nigeria.

Furthermore, a representative of the communications commission in Nigeria spoke on the benefits of censorship in 2011. Eugene Juwah argued that the ability to post anonymous information online had the potential to make a volatile political situation worse. As a consequence, Juwah felt that people should not be allowed to post in this way, and that the behavior should be carefully regulated.

These incidents suggest that it is likely that Nigeria will develop some level of internet censorship in the future. Exactly what this will involve is difficult to predict, but other countries have taken approaches such as requiring people posting online to use their real identities or tracking down people who have posted dissident information through their IP address. However censorship is implemented in Nigeria, the best approach to get around it is to get a VPN for Nigeria.

This will ensure that your ability to access and use the internet will remain the same regardless of what censorship or restrictions are developed. I have read that some VPN services do not allow users from Nigeria to access their internet network, or non-Nigerians who are in the country to sign into a previously established account. If you're going to use a VPN service while in Nigeria, be sure to check that they provide service there.

In the particular case I read about, the person was unable to get his money back because he had unintentionally violated the TOS of the VPN service. Unfortunately, ignorance of rules is rarely accepted as a good reason for a refund, so do you due diligence.
