The United States have always been involved in wars. They always proclaim that they do it for the sake of freedom and democracy, but we all know that there are other interests involved. For several years now, they have turned their military efforts to Afghanistan, where millions of troops are located.
I am not a political expert and I think I will never be able to understand the complexity of the conflict. But after watching the horrible news of the soldier who killed at least 16 civilians (most of them women and children), I think it is time for all of us to think what gives the United States the right to invade a country and claim themselves as the "freedom league".
Barak Obama has dealt with a lot of delicate subjects through his presidential period. We just need to remember the disaster of the British Petroleum oil Company, the immigrant law and the problems with health insurance. However, this event will be remembered for a long time, not necessarily in a good way. And as time goes by, it is imperative that the president of this country starts taking measures towards their military in Afghanistan.
The afghan war, as this conflict has been called, started as a result of 9/11. The United States decided to go after Al Qaeda's leader, Osama Bin Laden, because they needed the world to see that you can't just cause damages to their country without paying the consequences. Now that their leader is death, there is no point in keeping the troops overseas (or at least that is what everybody thinks). The truth is that I will never understand political decisions and I think it's very sad that we have to witness all these cruelty without being able to do anything.
The other delicate issue around the situation in Afghanistan is that 2012 is a year of presidential election. Therefore, I don't think Barak Obama will do anything to retire the troops from that country until knowing if he will be president for another period (I hope I am wrong).
My biggest concern is how easy America decides to send troops to any country for any reason whatsoever. I know they have been a military country for a long time, but I fear what other actions are they planning to begin in the future, knowing for example that they want North Korea to stop their nuclear activities, and that they have wanted to participate in the Israel and Palestine conflict.
Hopefully yesterday's event will help this country to see that they should stop their military activities and pursue other goals like stabilizing their economy and guaranteeing every citizen their health insurance.
