Facebook Updates Should Not Humiliate You
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

Are your Facebook updates humiliating you? They should not be humiliating to you, since you are the one posting the updates, and you decide what to post. Updates are supposed to be good. They should make you feel good. They should not embarrass or humiliate you. You might decide to tell the world about your latest achievement or the newest addition to a collection, for example.

One example of an update that should not be humiliating to you is a notice to your readers that you have recently published another article. Your Facebook friends want to know what you are up to, and your fans around the world are hungry for your work. Posting an update on your newest article will tell readers that you have published something new, they will read it, and you will earn money.

Another example of an update that should not be humiliating is good news in your family. A younger sister may have just gotten married, for example. You are happy, and you want to share your happiness with the world.

A third example of an update that a person should be eager to share is news that he is graduating from college. He has just completed a scholastic journey and earned his degree. Now he can approach prospective employers, show them his degree, and hopefully be offered a job. If he is lucky, it may be the dream job that he has waited for his entire life. If he is not so lucky, the job will be a stepping-stone and a step closer to his dream job. He will be networking with others and gaining valuable experience that will help him to be a great employee and an asset to the company. He will connect with people, such as coworkers and supervisors, who can be used as references later on.

Finally, posting an update on Facebook lets people know that you are alright. You are alive, well, and going on with your life. When they see your update, they can breathe a little easier and feel better. Then they will be able to go on with their lives. They will be able to focus on their jobs, rather than worrying. Their supervisors will see that they are focused on their work and not distracted. The employees may get more responsibilities, which will help them to earn more money. An inspiring or exciting post may even inspire or excite them and make them want to work harder and achieve more.

Loved this article, Hollie--and you're right, of course--the togetherness that is possible with social networking doesn't come automatically without participation--we have to be willing to write at least one thing every once in awhile, make our presences felt and respond to the postings of others. It doesn't have to be forced--in fact, it _can't_ be forced. But it don't gotta be Shakespeare--it don't even need good grammaritizing. No one is expected to provide the meaning of life. I have one facebook friend who is building his new house--every day or so he posts a photo of the construction site with a comment that gives the temperature every time--it tells the rest of us what he's focused on at present and even let's us look for ourselves at what he's doing--such 'serial' statuses are often my favorites--I also like to see people's pets, but I'm an easy audience...
