Internet Marketing For Beginners

I have just completed a 30 day course in Internet Marketing, which was interesting, to say the very least. I am 54 years of age and have been the proud owner of a computer for the past 11 years. During that time I was in love with my computer. I kissed it before I went to bed each night. It was my best friend for a long time. My husband is quite a lot older than me and was often in bed by the time I got home from work in the evening and my computer was something I became dependent on. It gave me a reason to go home from work at night. I was deeply involved in playing games: started off with card games and progressed to hidden object games after I plucked up enough courage to get onto the internet.

Never, in my wildest dreams, did I think I would ever get involved in Internet Marketing. I never imagined that I would be involved in any kind of marketing. I have a niece who has a uni degree in Marketing and now lectures on the subject and I always thought it was a quite weird choice of degree for anyone to undertake. How things change, eh?

The course I have just completed was intensive and complicated. If you are in your mid-50's, or thereabouts, and have only ever used your pc for games, the occasional emails, a bit of word processing and perhaps keeping up with grandchildren on Facebook, don't ever think for one minute that Internet Marketing is going to be easy. Because it's NOT!! I would be lying if I said that it was.

When you first start a course like internet marketing, you come across things like: domain, URL, http, SEO, links, back-links, social networking, article writing, PPC, article marketing, uplinks and the list goes on and on. This is understandable, to a degree. Anyone who knows anything about any subject uses shortforms and abbreviations, assuming that everyone knows what is meant. The same goes for Internet Marketing. The people who run these sort of courses are normally ex-computing students, typically much younger than mid-50's and have been involved with computers for over half of their lifetime. I am sure that they don't deliberately go out of their way to make us feel like total incompetents, it's just that their lingo is second nature to them that they probably don't realise that they may as well be speaking in Tongues!

That being said, it has been a huge learning curve and I am extremely proud of what I have achieved in four weeks. I now have two websites up and running: one a webstore which can sell products to the public and the other an information sharing site. Although I'm still confused about quite a lot of stuff, I now know what most of the abbreviations mean and a fair bit of the lingo too. It's very liberating to know that you are not quite past it yet. You still have a brain that works after a fashion and really can be involved in the marketing world.

If you are fed up to your back teeth of working for someone else for a pittance of a wage and don't want to see yourself still doing the same thing in 10 years time, I urge you to give internet marketing a try. As I said, don't expect it to be too easy because it won't be. What it WILL be though, is rewarding. What may take you 5 hours to learn first time around will only take you 10 minutes next time. You really CAN make money over the internet - you just need to learn how. Trust me, you will learn something new every day which will be invaluable. We are fortunate enough to have experts on hand who have made thousands (and probably millions) of dollars annually through Marketing and who are now generous enough to share that knowledge with the rest of the world.

Just imagine, there are now billions of people in the world who use the internet - people who are looking for something on the internet - people who you can assist. You can work your own hours, as little or as long as you choose, work at home, whatever days you feel like working - it's entirely up to you. You won't make much money at first, maybe not for a couple of months while you are learning the do's and don'ts of marketing, but eventually, when you get the hang of it all you won't regret giving it a go. I know I have no regrets whatsoever. Be brave. Do it now!
