Niche marketing research is one of the secrets that most successful online marketers love to keep to themselves, because it's such a gamechanger. Every successful campaign lives and dies on its niche marketing research, so if you're not doing as well as you'd like, I can bet you that it's down to this vital factor. So how exactly do you do it right? I'm here to help you take the mystery out of the niche marketing research process, with my easy 3 step process to get you from zero to hero in your online efforts:
Easy Niche Marketing Research Process Step #1: Select Your Audience
While most niche marketing research guides will tell you to start with your product, I find it much more effective to find an audience first. That's because there are many products out there either with little demand because they were poorly conceived, or they're already extremely popular and the competition is too fierce. Either way, if you start with product research and then find an audience later, you'll waste a lot of time. Who has time to lose? Not me, so I start out by identifying a hungry niche market and then finding a product to suit later on, because there's always a product. So where do you identify audiences? All you need to do is to head to DMOZ, the online directory, because they've done all the niche audience categorization for you!
Easy Niche Marketing Research Process Step #2: Understand Your Audience
Again, at this point of the niche marketing research process, you'll be tempted to dive right into product and keyword research, but that would be a serious mistake. After all, how do you select a product if you don't know what the needs of your audience are? Well, you can't. That's why you need to research your audience, and I do that by going to forums and personal blogs, which again can be found at DMOZ under chat rooms and discussions. If you can find a popular forum within the niche, not only will you have a great resource for building your credibility and visibility later on, you'll have a one stop niche marketing research resource that you can tap into again and again to get article ideas, blog posts and targeted traffic.
Easy Niche Marketing Research Process Step #3: Product And Keyword Research
Okay, I know you've been waiting for this step of the niche marketing research process, and you'll notice that I've lumped them together. That's because as you discover products that are a good fit for your audience, you can shortcut your keyword research process by using the handy Google Keyword Research tool. Instead of doing the keyword research the hard way, and tearing your hair out trying to find the relevant keywords from the junk out there, Google will do it for you! All you need to do is to enter the product website URL into the Google Keyword Research tool, and it will tell you what keywords the website is relevant to. All you need to do then is to "steal" these keywords for yourself to promote these products, and you're guaranteed relevance!
