Are You Chasing Website Traffic?

Are we relying to much on Google for website traffic?

Think about this for a moment. With all the news on the internet lately of how Google is indexing websites through their Panda updates it's very easy to loose focus on our internet businesses. In a sense we've been programmed that getting a high page rank in Google with make us money, so at times our focus is doing just that. In reality all we're really doing is chasing website traffic instead of doing the things that will bring that traffic to our pages.

When things don't go exactly as planed and our page ranking in Google is not where we would like, our attention may be focused on improving those rankings in hopes of improving website traffic to our pages. I'm not saying we shouldn't strive to get a favorable listing in Google, but if all our attention is on our page rank then we only end up chasing that website traffic.. Trying to rely on any single source of visitors can be a huge mistake as many are finding out now.

I've read post after post where website owners were getting hundreds and even thousands of visitors to their site when suddenly in a weeks time those visitors were no more. They had put all their efforts into getting top listings in Google for their website traffic and little time spent developing other avenues of obtaining customers. As internet marketers we need to realize that Google is not the only game in town.

When starting and running a marketing campaign are you catering to a search engine with your promotions? You would only be chasing website traffic by doing just that. It's almost like a sense of fear we have that if we don't give someone or something what they want then that someone or thing want like me. Trouble with that is once we began to figure out what is wanted then the rules are changed. Not a very good relationship to be in at anytime.

Just a thought but what would you do if you got on your computer in the morning and there was no more Google? Sure there are other search engines but what rules are they playing by? How would you get a favorable ranking in them? See what I mean? We concentrate so much of our marketing efforts getting our website traffic from Google we forget the many other options available the could really get the targeted traffic that are more likely to be customers.

Has Google become too powerful? I believe they have. Bottom line is many are chasing website traffic from a host that constantly changes the rules. Gets kind of frustrating after a while. Trying to hard just to manipulate the system will likely come back to haunt you in time. The things you do today may work now, but what of the future?

Instead, why not explore other options and alternatives that can and will grow an internet business without relying so much one source of website traffic. Do your own thing so to speak. Your marketing experience with be much more enjoyable by doing so. There are too many other alternatives to build a business on the internet and as an affiliate marketer we should investigate them all.

Kevin, Right, exactly! Relying on one company is risky in any situation. Exploring other options is a good suggestion. Thanks for the info! Here and clicking thru:-) blessings, Cynthia

Really like this. Sadly was hit badly by a Panda slap this week from what I gather it was actually a mistake by Google that marked some sites down as parked!

I've blogged for years. I didn't start just to earn a buck, rather to help others and enjoy writing. I wanted an inexpensive creative outlet. I really could use the money, but writing to earn money may make my writing style more heartless and become less of a creative outlet, more of an obligation. Hopefully, writing the way I have with a few tweeks will endure the test of time and still give me a chance to earn some money.
