Getting your new business online is easy, if you know how to do it. It's also very inexpensive, again, if you know how to do it. So, don't let others scare you into believing that a large part of your business expense is in the cost of hosting. I'm not writing today to pitch a certain hosting company. Instead, I am going to present some ideas that maybe you haven't heard about. Once you know where to find hosting services, you can get your new business online and start growing it without worrying so much about the cost.
First, just a few words about quality. You’ve probably heard about Google and that they are by far the most popular search engine on the planet. As a side note, Bing is gaining ground on Google because of their unique search algorithm. For this article, I will stick with Google. Google is concerned with quality pages, period. Their definition of quality, as far I can tell, is original content. Another caveat about content is that it must be original, yes, but it must also be pleasing to the eye. Google loves beautiful websites. That is, websites full of content related images along with original content. As I’ve heard a million times, “Content is king!” The more Google likes your site, the higher PR (page rank) your site will receive. This translates into the coveted traffic that all websites need to survive.
You might be wondering what hosting has to do with Google and websites. In a word, everything. You see, without hosting, there will be no website and no content. When you are getting your new business online, you must watch your expenses because they can get out of control if you’re not careful. There is no need to spend a lot of money on hosting because the competition is very high in this business. Because of this, the price has been driven down, way down, from where it was not too long ago.
Luckily, hosting providers responded to the competition by keeping their prices down. However, not all hosting providers are created equal. Some will provide you with a “starter” site that is easy to make. All you need to begin is your own domain name. Others will provide absolutely bargain basement pricing for hosting, but expect you to already know “code” and literally leave you with a domain and no training whatsoever to get your site off the ground. Unless you know html code, this is not for you. Still others will provide great services and a multitude of choices for your site. You can use their templates to make a great first site, but you are limited to what you can design yourself.
As you can see, you have a lot of choices when it comes to hosting. As a suggestion, I would evaluate your own ability and knowledge, and then make your decision. Getting your new business online should be as exciting as it is easy. Spend the time necessary online until you are convinced that you’ve found the right company. You will probably want to stay with them for the duration because changing things mid-stream only takes time and many times, the results aren’t what you expected.
