I'm quite new to internet marketing; I'm only two months into it to be exact. Since last December, 5 months ago, I've had something on my mind that I just can't shake. I have a dream, a hope, one that I don't want to go away, that I don't want to rid myself of.
What is this hope? Simply this: I want to become debt free. But this is not the whole of it. No, I want to become debt free in order to . . . give. My husband and I presently do give part of our income regularly, but the fact remains that we would love to be able to give more.
So how are we going to go about doing this? Good question. I don't have all of the answers myself, but I do have some ideas. 1) We'll slowly and steadily pay off our current debt. 2) I'll slowly and steadily keep working at gaining a little extra income for our family through couponing and other money saving measures. 3) Slowly and steadily, I'll continue to work at internet marketing (giving it at least a year and then evaluating whether or not it is the route I should continue to go). 4) I'll continue to pray for a miracle!
In my room, pasted on the wall, right where I can see it as I work on the computer, I have a goal sheet . . . just freshly made. It states, "Goal: To become debt free . . . in order to give more . . . (in 2 years, beginning May 14, 2012, ending May 14, 2014)."
I have high hopes, I know. And there's no sign of them coming down. I'm determined, though I know this may be challenging, difficult and even discouraging at times. We want to be debt free; we want to be debt free in order to give more.
Why? Why this dream, this hope . . . high as it may be? Because lots of people have nothing. No food. Not even a decent place to live. I on the other hand, have it all. No, I'm not rich materially, but I at least have food to eat; I have shelter over my head. Would that we all had that.
Anyone else up for being debt free? Anyone else up for giving more? Will internet marketing be our ticket to this? I don't know, but one thing I do: I'll give it a year and then evaluate!
This is a great article Penny, what a fantastic reason for wanting to be debt free. There will be a lot of people here wishing for your success.
I really liked this article. It is possible to become debt free even without a high paying job or an inheritance. Slow and steady worked for us. I'm hoping to extend that philosophy to internet marketing also
John, thank you for sharing your experience here. Slowly and steadily, you and your wife became debt free. Excellent. It's definitely possible. And yes, extending it to internet marketing is perhaps a really good idea! Thanks for reading, John, and for your words.
Indeed high hopes could Internet marketing be the answer is a good direction for us and many others. You're wise to set a two year window. Many people give up, not recognizing they may be just about to take off. Statistically, for any business, it takes five to seven years to create a business from scratch that supports you. There's lots of "Outliers" who get there in much shorter or much longer times but that's the most common. 80% give up the first 3 years. Define it as failure and quit. Keep on keeping on!
Thanks for these stats, Cynthia. These are good for me to know, to help keep things in perspective. Thank you!
My pleasure! Sometimes life has many bumps in a row. So when you do take off, remember to start a variety of funds. For example, put at least 12 months living expenses somewhere "Liquid" so you can spend them for emergencies. As a small business owner now you get lots of tax deductions, so one way to create that fund is to pay close attention to deducting your expenses. Personally, I suspect that's part of the problem - the first three years how can anyone have a clue:-)
The world is crazier now than any time since the 1920's. Hopefully we get to better times soon. Now that the world is equalizing a bit on what XYZ costs in country A vs B vs C trade can settle down a bit. Probably wobble for quite a while but at least heading in better directions having handled the inequities of what one can earn from one country to another with the same groups of advanced skills at least. Good starts for planet earth...
Great article, great ambition and I pray that you make it. There is nothing quite like being debt free, it is not easy to get there and temptation is hard when nearly there to make debt again to get something you want. But you go girl and I hope you make it.
Thanks, Rob:) It isn't easy . . . slow and steady . . . day by day.
great read. I wish all success to you, your husband and every aspiring Internet Marketer including me! :) WE CAN DO THIS! :)) Loving your goal sheet as well. It's good to have a reminder close by to help you focus on your goals!
Thanks for the encouraging words. And yes, as you say, that you would do well too! I love having the goal sheet before me; I look up at is regularly throughout the day:)
Boy it would be nice if more people thought like you and had your attitude about being debt free and giving back. Stick with it, There obviously is a huge and growing market on the Internet. This is fact. All you have to do is gain experience, keep learning and stick it out, eventually it will come together. The majority of people quit too soon, they want everything NOW! Good Luck and keep plugging away.
Thanks for the encouragement, Joe. I definitely don't want to give up; and frankly, I'm having a blast doing it so far. Thank you for your words.
