How Many Words Are Enough For SEO

It has come up in some discussions as of late, on how many words are enough for optimum SEO. SEO is something that I to strive do have done on my sites. I had to go off and do some research on this subject to see what was the magic number, this is what I found.

Best Amount of Words For The SERPs

During my research I found a few articles that were saying about 300-700 words was the amount of words that was best suited for the search engines. I must admit I agreed of these numbers and thought this should be taken into account when writing your content.

As I went through with my reading, that tone changed very quickly and switched to another line of thinking.

Quality Rules

Of course I have been following this motto for some time now and believe in it 100%. I use nothing but quality content for all my sites and my articles that I submit to directories. At the same time, I really thought that there were a better number of words for SEO purposes.

How wrong I was on this subject, it seems that 50 words have been known to get a page ranked. Pages with 2000 words have been ranked and anything in-between I would think.

The consensus on this was that there is no real magic number to have set in your mind when you write content for you website. Instead, the focus should be directed on content and what you want this page to accomplish. When you have finished saying what you need to say about the chosen subject or directing your visitors to certain parts of your site, your done.

Longer The Better

You have the people who believe that more is better than less. For the simple reason that you will get a better chance to use your kw phrases and synonyms within the article. I would think that holds some water and has some validity to it as far as being a good sound method of achieving good SEO.

On the other hand, just to write for the sake of adding in kw phrases is not really a good practice as the SERPS will see your content as spammy.

It again comes down to when you are done saying what you need to say, you’re done.

What is Better For The Reader

I am in the belief, as are others that most people like to glance or scan a page rather than read entire contents of said page or post. I will be doing more research on this, keep tuned.

Conclusion

Keeping me on both sides of the fence a bit, but always following the rule of quality content above all the visitor first. Quality is King, and that is the deciding factor in ranking for the SERPS.

Your choice on how many words are enough to get your point across, just don’t write a book.

What I'm still wondering about is keyword density. How important is it? I don't like the sound of an article that has keyword stuffing, so keep mine at 1%. Right now, with LSI, I don't even want the 1%, if it isn't absolutely necessary, or happening naturally in the content. I think as far as length is concerned, it's up to the author, and quality is what really counts. I've written articles that are just under 2000 words, and people have read them. Maybe they scanned them, but read enough to leave a comment. I actually agree that 700 is a good number. It's up to the individual and what they want to say. Thanks Tim.

From what I read it still seems to have its place now how much value is added on the amount of kw used....not sure...I fiind most of the time it is easy to use the kw naturaly within the article and if not....I will make a concsious decesion to use it in the first paragraph for sure....and try to use synonoms when possible...as not to overdue the same phrases...I agree with qualtiy content above all....first page rankings brings more traffic...it is a fine line....I have had a few run 1000 at times not often...if I do I try to make two articles out of it...part 1 part 2....Thanks Joan...

Good article and you just can't beat quality content, period. If you don't have that, then nothing else about your article will amount to a hill of beans. With Google or your readers.

I think quality rules no matter what the length. better to have better quality and relevant than anything length. Gayle

Seems to be the thing, not so much the length but content will rule the SERPs if 50 words is enough to do the job so be it.....the learning never stops....thanks Gayle
