1. Be honest with yourself
If you want to learn about internet marketing because you think it’s a quick rich scheme, then I can tell you now you will be very disappointed. Yes there are plenty of people who will try and tell you that it can be done quickly and they will be only too glad to take your money off you. Success at internet marketing doesn’t happen in 30 days and you need to be prepared to show some commitment and be open to learning. Only you know if you’re in the right place to start this journey.
2. Avoid the ‘gurus’
There are so many gurus out there who will tell you that you can make thousands of dollars every month, generally without any effort. Now I don’t want to be too cynical, but have you actually met any of them? No nor me. Oh yes the gurus are raking in lots of money because their business are built on the premise of their customers being rubbish at what they suggest and then keep having to come back for the next program. Please don't go there.
3. Do some research
One of the things if you’re going to start your online business and learn about internet marketing is to do some research. Look at various forums and see what people are saying about their experiences. Yes there is a lot of information out there and you can’t possibly digest it all, but that’s not to say you shouldn’t look. And whether you find positive or negative comments don’t just pass them by, think about what the writer meant and whether that matters to you or not.
4. Sample some free training
Anyone can have the idea that they want to learn all about internet marketing and set up an online business, but the fact is that it isn’t for everyone. The problem is that you don’t want to invest lots of money on something you find you really aren't that keen on after all. So why not take the opportunity to try some free training before you go on and buy. If you try it and you don’t enjoy it you will have invested in the price of a domain name for a website and some hosting for where the site is kept but little else apart from your time. That is a cheap investment to ensure you're not making a huge mistake.
5. Understand your baseline
The great thing about internet marketing is that it is something that anyone can try. However, you need to be realistic about your baseline. If you don’t have many computer skills, you’re totally unused to using the internet for research purposes and have never tried to sell anything before then you need to accept that it might just take you a bit longer to become a success at it. In no way am I suggesting your shouldn’t do it. If you have the commitment and resolve to stick with it and are prepared to learn and put the hours in you can make a success of it. Always be realistic where you baseline is and then work from there.
Summary
If you want to decide whether internet marketing is for you, you should test the waters first and make sure that you don’t part with huge sums of money to one of the so called gurus who will try and convince you that it’s easy. Do your research, take some opportunities to sample some free training before you invest regular money and be honest with yourself about deciding whether it’s something you want to do and whether you have the commitment to achieve it.
I think you need to learn what you can and then make your own decisions about what you buy into
I often wonder, when I see those screenshots of massive amounts of money in Clickbank accounts with the "promise" of anyone being able to do the same for "just $47 blah" why if they're so rich they can't defer payments until we've made our first $47 using their miraculous systems!
Another nicely thought out and informative article BIS, thanks.
Maybe IM is a bit like learning a musical instrument. You just got to do the practice. It's hard at first, you have to remind yourself why you started and what you want to achieve, usually every day, and just keep practicing. Have your lessons, get given exercises, listen to your teacher, practice some more, get frustrated sometimes, remind yourself again why you're doing this and so it goes until you start to get it. I reckon Your article tells the realistic view of Learning IM. Thanks BIS:)
I like it! Very nice article about something I did first to see if it was something I would be capable of doing. The answer is yes I can, so now its off to build websites and the like! Oh boy!
