- Don't multi-task in multiple social sites when starting out. Sure you want to get a jumpstart on marketing, but if you don't know how the social network marketing process works best you may be wasting your time and your money. Keep in mind, the more networks you're involved with, the more time you'll be spending posting, tweeting, etc.
- Begin with only one social network and work at building your "friends" there first. Learn as much as you can about that site; things such as how it works, the lingo and the demographics of the users. Keep your page current and engaging with your fan base. Run contests, ask questions and keep your fans updated on what's new. Once you have that one mastered, then you can move onto another site and start over.
- In still the use of a third party to help you out once you have established yourself on that first social media site. This would be someone who you trust and knows you. Someone who will be taking over the established entity you have created and can continue the positive and hard work that you have already put into that site.
- Be yourself when you are posting or commenting or whatever. You want to create and build positive relationships, not false ones. You are building trust with others. This is a must otherwise how are you going to get anyone to believe what you have to offer is what they need and want?
- Participation is the key because there are other entrepreneurs who are trying to do the same thing as you. Network how you would at any other level. Ask questions and use the answers to move your business forward. Every day is a learning experience and these sites are a great place to learn.
It's easy to forget that you are running a business when you are on a social media site and you go into personal mode. This doesn't have to be a big issue as long as you treat others as you want them to treat you.
