What makes social media so darn impressive? The fact that it literally reaches around the world is a great start. That kind of exposure is expensive to get through traditional media.

What is all the hype about blogs? When you post an article on your website, it tends to feel sterile and rigid. A blog, on the other hand, is more personal, connecting with the reader. If you post expert content frequently, people will return to read your blog time and time again. On top of that, posting how-tos which your customer would be interested in proves your expertise and also draws them to your site from search engines. Even better, blogging is free if you already have a website!

Is Facebook really all that big of a deal? Yes, indeed. Facebook offers two avenues of advertising: the first is just like traditional marketing, only more effective. You can place text or graphic ads on their site which are targeted to your exact audience. For example, you can specify the viewers' location, age, race, sex, favorite hobbies or even likes and dislikes. The second way to advertise on Facebook is by starting a page for your business; then all you have to do is post engaging content to it and communicate with your followers.

Twitter only allows 140 characters; how can I advertise there? The fact is that short messages are often the most effective. You can announce a sale, "20% off graphic tees this weekend only, or link to content on your site. Twitter is easy to access on mobile devices, opening your potential audience up to anyone with Internet access on any device.

How does one market on YouTube? It is amazing how creating a video can get the word out about your products or services. For example, a how-to can show people how to correctly use your product. A funny video will be shared around the world, teaching everyone who you are and what you do. If your video goes viral, it will literally be shared to the point that it becomes a part of everyday life.

Now that you can more easily decide if online marketing is for you, begin a list of pros and cons. Go through each bit of information you have read here and see if it applies to your company. If so, move forward, and if not, try another idea. Soon, you will be confident in your decision.
