Marketing Online Versus Marketing In the Real World

So what is the difference between marketing online versus marketing in the real world? Is there really a difference at all? The differences lie in the mechanics of implementing your marketing strategy. But the core fundamental concepts of how to market effectively to potential consumers remains the same. It remains a set of core, universal principles that must be practiced, whether you are marketing online on the Internet through your company’s very own website, or whether you are marketing by walking up and down the street with a picket sign.

Though these two marketing venues may be completely polar opposites, they are in fact a lot more similar than you might think:

They both strive to achieve a common set of goals:

  1. Marketing online and marketing offline both are carried out with the goal of gaining increasing exposure for your website. In other words, you are trying to tell the world that your business exists and is out there, at your service. The last thing you want to do is just run your business with a passive marketing plan. How do you expect people to find you? Sure, a relatively small number of people may find your business. But if you really want your business to be uber successful and uber profitable, then you are going to have to actively increase the general public’s awareness of the existence of your business and what products or services it has to offer.
  2. Both marketing online and offline are carried out with the intention of persuading potential customers to buy your particular product or service. You want to strike an emotional chord with them. You want them to come to the logical conclusion that they need your particular product or service in order to solve a particular problem in their life, to fulfill a certain need in their lives, to improve the quality of their lives, and to make them happy. You don’t want to just say “hey, we’re here if you need us”. You want to tell your customers “YOU NEED US”!
  3. Whether you are marketing online or offline, you have to face the fact that your business has competition. And it is your job to make sure that potential customers choose your business over that of your customers. You want to persuade and convince, through rational as well as emotional arguments, that you clearly offer the better price, the better deal, the better quality product, and the better quality service, and that they would be making a grave mistake by choosing to go with your competitors instead of with you.

These are just a few of the fundamental concepts that are common to both marketing online as well as to marketing in the offline world.
