It is 2012 and it is hard to believe that I was on the internet in the mid 90’s browsing and using the internet as a tool, doing banking way before anybody else, but never occurred to me that I could use the internet as a means to earn an income.
Coming from an IT background I jumped on the internet wagon as soon as I had a chance to buy myself a personal computer. I browsed forums, send emails and connected with people but my marketing skills were lacking.
My First Contact with the Internet
It was 1999 when I first decided to do a website in html, and I did it. The technical part was not a problem, but my design was really ugly. People really laughed at it and so I decided that was not my cup of tea.
I was also advised to write for the internet, but my challenge was that I did not know where to start, and I did not consider myself an expert. Life got busy with other things and I was earning a good income. Then in 2004 I decided that I wanted more out of life and I did some courses to work for myself in translation. I still never thought of the opportunities that the internet offered.
At that time I came across lots of unethical marketing on the internet. I remember I would be searching for antivirus software, and I would end up getting websites totally unrelated to them. I could not figure out that people would do something like that.
My first Internet Marketing Training
It was 2006 when I took my first step into y internet marketing journey. I was researching really for more, and came across the term virtual assistant. I thought I could do that and registered for a course. This course had some marketing lessons, but I still did not get it. Although I did the course my excuse was that I did not want to do really admin jobs. I had no experience in admin jobs, so I could not see what my value would be to a client. So I continue with my translations.
From Virtual Assistant to Internet Marketing
2008 came and I was pregnant with my second child and I really did not want to go back to work. Although I was working as a contractor I still did not feel satisfied in my work. Suddenly I woke up and decided to do a life coaching course. Self development has been a passion for me for years.
One thing led to the other one and I then heard someone talking about marketing your coaching services on the internet. I went home and started searching for internet marketing training. I found my first training, and I must say it was not the right one.
Since then I took many internet marketing training courses, I got the syndrome of the eternal student. I felt that I never knew enough. I am slowly overcoming that. So if you ever decide to embark on the internet be aware that you may face the same challenge. But challenges are good, so do not fear.
