Online Wholesaling For Newbies: How To Find What Sells Best on Ebay

You may be considering trying your hand at selling on eBay or other e-commerce web sites, but you're too haunted by nightmares about ending up with a garage full of merchandise, no customers - and no profits. Well, that only happens to people who don't do their research before they start selling. And fortunately, pre-arming yourself with online wholesaling market research is easy.

What you should be searching for, quite simply, is information on the product, the audience, and the competition involved. If you were opening up, say, a newsstand, you would probably make sure that there wasn't another newsstand close by, and that it was in a location where the highest number of people would be most likely to notice it. That "making sure" is all that market research is.

Most newbie online wholesalers fail because they jump on the bandwagon of the product that's "hot" and popular. But you don't need a big customer pool if they're in need of a product that has little competition. The vast majority of Ebay's elite "power sellers" started out by reaching out to underserved markets, such as those in need of plus-sized clothing or equipment for the left-handed. Once you have a few of these niche market under your belt, then you can expand your product and audience ranges.

Here's one way to do it: Go to eBay and click on the blue "Advanced" to the right of the green search button on top of the page. Go to the second section under Find Items, titled Search Including" and check the second box for Completed Listings. Under Find Items, enter some product keywords and click on the blue search button. You'll be presented with a list of search results.

Scroll through the first five pages (or 250 listings), and take a tally of how many items have sold (prices in green). What sells best on Ebay will come up at least 60% green (150 sold listings). If it doesn't, narrow your product search keyword, or try a different product altogether. If it does, you're ready to take the next step -- finding someone who can provide you with the merchandise at a wholesale price so you can sell it for a profit to create a smart passive income.

While researching this way doesn't cost anything, it's time-consuming and doesn't answer any questions you may have. That's why it is highly recommend that you do your online wholesaling market research the other way: by joining an online supplier Web community. Along with more efficient marketing research and other tools, these sites can offer training in online wholesaling for newbies, listings of pre-approved wholesalers, and the companionship of online sellers like you to interact with!
