Rural marketing, the buzz word today is a recent introduction to marketing. Till the 90's any marketing effort was focussed on metro cities and urban areas. Spending in the rural markets during the period ‘09-'12 rose to 69 billion dollars in comparison to 55 billion in the urban areas. Some of the companies that have decided to invest in the rural areas are Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd that will sell its entry level bikes, while logistic companies plan to invest nearly 500 crore rupees in the next five years to open outlets in rural areas.
