So you want to sell books with amazon? Great! This is a wonderful idea, and you will definitely find this guide helpful for you. This guide is designed for people who wish to sell their own book on amazon, or for people who wish to make money as an amazon affiliate promoting other books and earning commission. Towards the end of the article you will find some links to further learning if you need to know more.
Selling Your Own Book
Amazon is a great resource for selling your own book or ebook. The search function and "related items" section alone make it worth considering. You can sell some books without having to do much promotion (although the more promotion you do, the more sales you will make) and it is free to upload an ebook to Amazon, which was also probably free for you to make.
There is more to selling on Amazon than just uploading an eBook and waiting for sales to come in. Here are some useful tips that myself and others have found useful when selling on Amazon.
1. Allow the book to be free for a certain period, one or two weeks, this will generate some reviews and generate traffic to your website (if you have one)
2. Create a website with useful content on it and when readers of your book visit the website (to receive a bonus, or merely out of curiosity) you can promote any other work you do to them.
3. Do not make the book very expensive until you have a reputation and a following, people don't like to spend a lot of money on an unknown. (It's also easier to sell 1,000 copies at $1 than it is to sell 100 copies at $10)
4. Utilize article writing or posting in forums, making a Facebook fan page, and do some keyword research to help drive traffic to your website/amazon page to further drive sales.
Selling Other's Books for Commission
Amazon pay royalties to their affiliates for any sales made that were referred by them. You can actually make a decent income by promoting other people's work, through article writing, forums, social marketing, or other avenues and sit back and receive a check from Amazon associates for your work. Not only this, amazon also pay you for ANY purchases made after somebody goes through your link, even if they don't buy the product you have been promoting you can earn a commission.
I recommend the following tips for selling books as an Amazon Associate.
1. Start off promoting products you are familiar with and have actually used, the whole process will be easier.
2. Do not spend money on expensive adverts with Google, there are many free and cost-effective ways of promoting on a very low budget.
3. Join an online community to learn more about affiliate marketing so you don't make mistakes.
Thanks for your suggestions on using Amazon by writing your own ebook and making it be free initially and then low priced, as a way of getting people to find you.
Good article, some food for though here and yet more use to make of the Amazon Affiliate scheme. Thanks
Great info! Especially as my book gets closer to being done. Thanks for this
Great information! I have been considering selling books on amazon, but it's just tough to take the first leap of faith!
Point two is especially important, Dom. My genealogy site sells tons of my books as people stumble across them through genealogy research. After that, word of mouth sells a lot more. Great article.
