There is a lot for you to consider when you want to start selling items online. One of the many htings to do when first starting out is research. This is very important and I know its something that you probably have no idea how to do or want to do. Well, I am going to tell you how you can do your research.
First of all, you have to find a keyword tool. There is one over at Google Adwords and you could use that one for your online business. The problem with the one at Adwords is that you will find that it is tailored to those who want to create PPC campaigns with Adwords hence all the talk about cost per click etc. One more advanced keyword tool that is probably more useful is the one over at WA. This one is tailored towards people looking for free traffic because they tell you how many websites are indexed in the free organic search results.
You do your research by digging through keywords that people type in when they are looking for your product. If you are selling a product that helps people quit smoking then you may want to appear in the first page of Google for a search term like “how can you stop smoking”. Once you have decided which search term you want to rank for you then tailor your website towards that search term so you have the best chance of ranking there as possible.
When doing your research, you want to make sure that you choose search terms that have a low amount of competition but also a reasonable amount of traffic. There is no use ranking for a search term that has about 20 searches a month because you will hardly get any traffic at all for such a search term. Better to rank for something that has about 5000 searches a month and a little bit more competition.
A good rule of thumb when doing your research is to discard any search term that has more than 20000 indexed websites. Obviously the more websites Google has ranked for that search term, the harder it would be to rank for that search term.
When selling items online, there is a lot of information to consider and a lot of research to be done. Thankfully there are many websites out there that can help you to start making a living from selling items online.
