What A Year

Well its the end of the year 2012. What a crazy year it has been, not just for marketers but in general. As marketers, we survived yet another apocalypse, and various types of animals eating away at our beautiful sites. We saw dramatic changes in the mobile and social areas of marketing. Yep, all year long we have been on a roller coaster ride that has been interesting to say the least.

We are calling 2012 the year of the Rise and Fall.

Thats' it nothing particular there were just so many ups and downs thats what we decided to call it.

I saw a lot of people just give up on their goals this year. Its sad but its true. If you were smart you didn't give up. You kept educating yourself and pushing forward to achieve your goals. All the changes that happened were in our opinion for the better good of all Internet Marketers. I know some of you might find it difficult to agree. But, if you look back I think you'll see the changes really created a security for all the transparent and honest marketers.

In 2012 Google alone implemented more algorithm changes than I can count. They were bashed repeatedly on the web by black hat marketers and even some white hats. All in all, the changes they made created a level playing field. And you can't complain about that.

We saw spam complaints go through the roof this year. Why? Because people want a better service/product. Not only that, they want a better way of receiving the information about that product or service. People understand canned messages and they know how to avoid them.

In my opinion Social marketing was changed more than any other this year. It changed how we write, how we optimize and even how we talk in some cases. Social Media has had a huge impact this year but then again it always has and I'm sure it always will.

Suggestions for 2013-

For 2013 I suggest strongly you keep a close watch on all things social. Keep a close watch on all things Google. So pretty much that means you will have to watch everything. Be sure to make all of your marketing easy to read for mobile users. Whether its emails or blog posts, be sure all text is large enough and all buttons are in thumbs reach.

The #1 suggestion make sure you are marketing to your local area. Local marketing is a must for everyone this year and if your not doing it you might as well close up shop.

I agree, 2013 will be a very interesting year in many ways. Mobile and Windows 8 will completely change the way we do things, and who knows what Google has in mind this year. Here's to a great 2013 Chris!

Good tips! You end with a great Rise;) When we are marketing to our local area we are marketing to a target audience we fit into. Local marketing gives us a competitive edge that's built into who and where we are right n ow.

I think google search is becoming more and more localized so local marketing makes sense. That might all change soon though when Apple enter the search engine world

Wow, I haven't even heard that Apple was thinking about this. Could be awesome.

Local marketing, huh? Makes sense. Just went into one recently. It helps if you speak more than one language, also.

Thanks for reading, I agree with you about speaking more than one language. I'm working on my spanish now. Since I live in Florida, Spanish seems to be the right choice for a second language.

Thanks, You should definitely look into local marketing. Of course depending on your niche I might not be as big a factor as say a Roofing company but, it can't hurt.

New Year, New Start. Let's hope this year will be one of Rise and Rise! I, for one, learned a lot in 2012. All of which I intend to put to good use in 2013 and beyond. I too will be keeping a close eye on Google!
