Have you ever thought what is and why do we use a niche in Internet Marketing? I know that as a new Internet Marketer these were strange concepts to me and I was afraid to ask. That is a funny thing isn't it? You would think as someone that wants to market things that you would be full of self confidence wouldn't you?
In point of fact it is not necessary for the Internet Marketer to be confident at all, as he/she seldom if ever meets the actual customer. That is what makes the experience unique it is taking place in a virtual world, so that your personal attributes or lack thereof is of no consequence as long as you can learn to write in an informative and relevant style from the customers perspective.
OK so turning to the niche, that is a small, hopefully under tapped area of the market which has enough visitors to justify a highly targeted and relevant site that sells either the answer to your potential customers problem, or a product that people who are interested in the niche would find it difficult to live without. So the word niche relates to a small highly targeted segment of the market.
Why would we only be interested in such a small segment of the market? Surely you say most of the Sales are from the whole market segment? Well no not really, you see the market as a whole will be well catered for by the major players in the market, however all markets have the experts and connoisseurs who are more demanding. It is this select market that we try to cater for as it is smaller has less competition and a higher proportion of qualified buyers. What we are trying to find is an under served market one which has visitors and where the visitors will want to buy the offering we have.
Obviously a larger niche would have more visitors, but at the same time it is much more competitive in a niche that has more vendors competing. Google will become our friend if we choose a smaller sub niche as we will get some search exposure under related keywords, and that is the reason that using long tailed keywords is recommended.
So I hope I have answered the question what is and why do we use a niche in internet marketing. If you already are familiar with the concepts you will also be able to see that well chosen keywords allow us to direct more well qualified traffic to our sites, particularly if we can use our niche as part of the keyword, or phrase.
