I speak to a lot of people who are just starting out wanting to learn internet marketing and one of the things they want to know is what type of internet marketing training is the best. It’s a question that I find quite difficult to answer and here’s why …
I’ve done a lot of studying over the years, some online, some at various colleges and universities in the UK. I’ve also attended a couple of hundred face to face training events which have lasted anything from a couple of hours to 10 days. Although the training has all been very different there has been one common element with all of them. The attendees have very different views of how good the events were.
Some of the attendees thought it was the best training they had ever attended, some merely enjoyed it, some people were bored and some were quite indifferent. Some people thought they had learned a lot and others resented what they saw as a complete waste of time. When I first started attending these training events, this used to puzzle me. If I thought it was rubbish – I just couldn’t see why someone else thought it was good I used to just think they must be completely stupid. Surely they had experienced what I had experienced?
Of course I’m now a lot older and a little wiser and have realised that we process the same experiences in different ways and there are many factors that influence our views, including our own preferences, our values and beliefs and our prior experiences. What one person considers is good, someone else is going to look upon with complete disdain.
And that’s why it’s so difficult to answer the question ‘what type of internet marketing training is the best?’ There are many online companies who offer internet marketing training and most of them have been reviewed by an equal number of happy or unhappy customers. If you do some research and read just a few comments, you can be left wondering whether people are talking about the same company.
So if you’re thinking of doing some internet marketing training, rather than considering what type is best, start thinking about what it is you need and want. By doing this you will start to determine what training might help you to successfully set up an online business.
These are some of the things you might ask yourself
- Do I want free training?
- Do I want to try the training before I buy?
- How much knowledge do I already have?
- Do I want to be able to access support when I need it?
- Do I want a community of people I can talk to?
- Do I want to be able to work at my own pace?
- Do I want set modules or something more flexible?
- Do I enjoy working by myself?
By asking and answering these questions and others you will have a much clearer idea of what it is you want from training and then find out about the organisations that you think can deliver and make your choice. It’s not a case of what is the best type of training? More ‘What type of training do I need and want and where can I find it?
