Why use the Google keyword tool? You can use this tool as an AdWords customer or externally at no cost. Many keyword software programs tie into the Google external keyword tool. The majority of Internet searches are made using the Google search box so the keyword statistics from Google are valuable to Internet marketers and webmasters in general. Using popular keywords in domain names, website titles, and articles can increase traffic to a site. More traffic means the more interested search engines are in a site which means the site gets a higher search rating.
Webmasters use popular keywords in page titles. The site content is loaded with keywords. However overloading a web page with keywords can create problems. Therefore a certain percentage of keywords are used deemed reasonable by the Internet community. The keywords on a web page relate to searches being made. First you want to have the keyword in your title and second you want it in your content. If you use Meta files, then you want these keywords in your meta keyword list.
Descriptions of web pages should include the proper keywords. Again, if you use Meta files, include the keywords in the description.
Remember that your domain name should include the keywords that you want to focus on. That is very important. When a searcher uses a keyword, the search engines will bring up your domain if the keyword(s) are in the title.
When you use the external Google keyword tool, you will be able to search a website for keywords. Say you want to look at a competitors site. Then you would put the domain name in the proper box. You do not use this feature except when you want to spy on a particular site.
The tool will bring up the popularity of a keyword or keyword phrase telling you how often the site has been visited in the last 30 days. It will tell you how much competition there is for a keyword. You can even learn what pay-per-click users are paying for the keyword or phrase.
The Google internal tool used by AdWords user allows the user to predict the amount of traffic he will receive from an ad placed on Google search result pages. You see these ads when you run a Google search. They appear at the top of the search page, along the right column and at the bottom of the page. The ads are placed according to what is being paid for the keyword and how much Google loves you as a customer. Many marketers do not want to be listed at the top of the page and shoot for positions 3-5 or such. The reason is that some folks don't click on ads at the top of the page. I don't know why but I seldom do.
I don't use the Google tools directly unless I'm using AdWords. I use a tool which uses the Google search tools but gives me more specific information.
