Your Internet Marketing Niche - Do You Have One?

It often turns out that the beginner chooses a broad subject content domain as their initial Internet marketing niche. I know from experience, as I have done so myself. However, there are often great uses for the broad content domain, and many ways to get your niche on, once you figure out what that is. I will attempt to convey a few easy strategies for those Internet marketers that might be having difficulty with this all too common occurrence. I will use myself as an example, as I had to solve this very problem too.

My initial concept for my domain was going to tie in a service involving the local Internet market. The problem is, that did not work very well for Internet niche marketing, that requires a great deal of articles for learning how to properly market first. Within my first week of training at Wealthy Affiliate University, I actually landed my local market client that I had in mind. I had the problem that my domain for learning was broad, and my client has a different time scale than my course work with WA had.

It took a bit of rethinking my entire concept, but I began turning my initial WA domain into an overall Internet niche marketing site, meaning working to help those with a true niche. It is a work in progress, and slowly taking form. It actually already ranks first in the secondary keyword category, and is on page four of forty eight in the primary. I have no doubt that it will take the number one organic spot fairly soon, which is held by a fifteen year old company that syndicates a radio program on internet marketing. The reason is that it isn’t the primary keyword or content for that business.

Now for those of you that find yourselves in a similar situation of some type, which I suspect could be a fairly large number of beginner marketers, this is a great strategy for you to consider. You obviously know much more now than you did when you first acquired your initial domain. You have several options available to you, if your struggling to write articles for an awkward or difficult niche, that might not even be a niche at all, as in my case initially.

  • You can buy a new domain, that is a true niche.
  • You can use a free blogger blog from Google.
  • You can use a free Squidoo lens.
  • You can use a combination of these, and many others for an expandable niche.

What you might be able to do is take a few minutes and consider a mind map of your business, and scale it out a bit. Instead of a single difficult domain at the moment, perhaps that domain becomes a hub if you will, and you add to your business with some diversity. You can easily and quickly create a brand new marketing niche for free, and write like the wind about something you now understand much better. A real internet marketing niche that is drilled down, so you can populate it with appropriate blog content easily, and write several articles within an hour a day. Yet it relates directly to your initial broader domain as well.

Another approach might be to simply acquire another niche domain, or a free blog, and create a totally unrelated niche, but one that you already know well, and enjoy. So long as you can find related product, an audience, your set. It might be the breath of fresh air you need to get excited and quickly ramp up your business, rather than continue to struggle with a difficult intended niche that is making very slow improvement.

Luckily for me, I have chosen to do both methods. I have a free blog on a subject I enjoy, my original broad topic blog I have managed to niche down a little, my local market SEO client, and a couple of other irons in the fire that I have not rolled out yet, that expand my niche. The one thing I would not do however, is struggle day after day with a single domain that was awkward, difficult, becoming unenjoyable, and especially costing me money to try and earn a profit on.

I say this because I write articles for others as well, and I have come to realize it is these very people that have become my clients. I can tell they are smart, and doing all the other aspects as instructed, but they struggle to write content about something they decided was a niche, but might not be at all. If you have a true niche, the least difficult part of your Internet marketing niche would be the process of article marketing. If that part is a struggle due to the topic content, and not your ability to write, please consider some of these options. It might just be the perfect move to get your business earning a profit, getting traffic, and really seeing progress.
