The Dreaded Interview Made Easy

Good day to you in this article we are going to discuss interviews and how to address them. We shall be covering the ability to relax your nerves. How to develop a deep rapport with the interviewer. How to control the flow of conversation and also how to ask if your interview has been successful or not.

Like most people I have had my fair share of interviews though I am pleased to say that unlike most people for the most part I have been successful with my interviews. True I have not been successful at all of them but for the most part my nerves were in control and I asked the correct questions. But I suppose you cant please all the people all the time.

First of all when you receive the news that you have been asked to interview you should immediately pat yourself on the back as your application alone has stood out. In today's market this in itself is an achievement. The company would not waste their time or your time asking you to interview if they did not think there was a chance that you could improve their company by using your expertise in the position that you have been asked to be interviewed for.

How can one relax their nerves when after all the interview process for many is an all together nervous time? Be prepared as much as possible about the company you are going to see. Research them on the web and get to know how long they have been in business, how successful they are, what their mission plan is. Most companies have this information on their websites. By doing this you are effectively associating with yourself that you already work for this company and so therefore you will be well prepared before you step into the interview. The interviewer will be impressed if they start to explain how long the company has been going, how successful, etc etc and you intervene at the correct time and fill in the missing gaps.

Body language plays a massive part in the interview process they want to know that you will fit in with the rest of the team. If they talk and openly describe the company with not only words but hands movements as well, try to adopt the same type of expressions when it is your time to talk. If their hands are clasped together then clasp yours together. The deepest form of rapport is breathing if you can match their breathing subconsciously they will be thinking that you are like them.

The ending question I have found myself is always the most difficult one. I am sure you are aware of the question:-

Is there anything else you would like to say about your application?

Here my magic question which always extends the interview is:-

What else needs to be discussed today for you to feel as if I am the correct person for the position that I am applying for?

This of course forces them to say any qualms they may have in hiring you. True they will no doubt have others to interview but this one question alone will give you the chance to stand out some more and amend any information that you may have given to a more positive piece on your behalf. This also shows the interviewer that you are confident enough to handle the role and not afraid to ask questions.

In this article we covered interview techniques. We covered how to relax your nerves and to commend yourself just for getting the interview. We discussed how to research the company before you go so that you show keen interest in their business. How body language can be used effectively and why. Finally we covered one important question that for me has helped me open many doors.

Once again thanks for reading and any questions just fire away. All the best Jason.
