While many of us may have been interviewed by telephone to carry out the survey, many of us have little or no experience in a telephone interview when applying for a job. Telephone interview is often used in sales-related jobs, especially in telemarketing with good telephone skills, a basic requirement, however, are also increasingly Organizations screening technique prior to submission to call the people face to face interview. They are often used when people find a job abroad.

To be interviewed by phone is a completely different experience to be interviewed face to face, so here are my top tips how to prepare and conduct yourself during a telephone interview.

1. Take the interview seriously.

A telephone conversation is no different than a face-to-face. Remember to take seriously prepare for his career.

2. Avoid distractions

If you know exactly when they will be interviewed, make sure you have done everything possible to avoid distractions. Turn off the computer and any other phone, and if you share a house tell the people who do not want to be disturbed, and if necessary put a sign outside the door.

3. Be prepared

Make sure you have thought about the PSU (unique selling points) and a couple of questions to ask if there is an opportunity. Make sure a pen and paper if you need to write notes and its application in front of you. However, it is only there as an "aide memoire". If you read word for word, it will look a little strange.

4. Charge your phone

If the interviewer calls you to phone rather than drive, make sure your phone is fully charged. Imagine how it would be embarrassing, the phone suddenly cut off, because they do not have enough power.

5. It 'a little breathing / relaxation exercises.

As your voice can count on you to help sell, make sure it is as strong as possible. Be sure to do some breathing exercises before the call to be as relaxed as possible

6th Hydrate

Even if the interviewer expects to need water, do not understand it, if you slurp down the phone to them. It 'obvious that you should not eat even if you can not see.

7. Remember to smile.

Yes, your interviewer will be able to tell whether or not you're smiling and you can set the tone for the entire interview. It is also important that you keep your living voice that is easy to learn if he looks cool, or cranky. They need to know that you are interested in getting the job.

Use verbal cues 8th

In face-to-face interview, the interviewer can see the body language, if it is a mirror of their movements, or nod. Of course, this does not hold the phone, so it's important to give verbal directions such as "yes", "I" "I understand" to show that you are a strong part of the discussion. However, be careful not to overdo it, or it may sound fake.

9. Listen carefully

Always listen carefully, but somehow the pressure is even greater in a telephone interview, as they often can be much shorter and interviews because you can not see the person that can be difficult not to let your mind wander .

10th Reflects the interviewer

This does not mean only the second back to what the interviewer says. It should reflect the use of different words, because you can check your comprehension, and also tells the interviewer that you understand.

11. Do not cut the conversation short.

Just because you're at home, the same rules. The interview ends when the interviewer says goodbye. Do not forget to thank them for taking the time to ring you.

12. Take time to reflect

Once you turn on the phone, it is worth taking the time to reflect on what you were asking your answer, and if there are areas you want to improve. If it does not go well, evaluate, learn and grow.
