Language is a true reflection of a culture of any nation. The development of a language has a great influence of its culture and effect of civilization of neighboring countries.

Urdu is an attractive language; it is a language of love, peace, lyricism and poetry. The word ‘Urdu’ is derived from the Turkish language that means ‘foreign’ or ‘horde’. Urdu language has a great influence of Turkish, Persian and Arabic language during the reign of Delhi Sultanate of Mughal Empire. The official language of Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir in India is Urdu.

Urdu is a language, which is not so ancient but still holds lot of importance and Urdu literature is full of charisma and elegance. Several poets worked for the progress of Urdu language and literature like Amir Khusro, Mir Taqi Mir, Mirza Ghalib, Allama Iqbal and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. They wrote beautiful poetry, which helps in developing the interest and love for the Urdu language & literature among people. They expressed their thoughts and feelings towards people though their poetry.

The history of a language is depending on the history of that area where it is spoken and its culture is entrenched in it. India is famous for its productive land and plenty of natural resources always remain the focal point for the people of Northwest since long time. Prakrits was an ancient form of Sanskrit language and was considered as the mother of Urdu language before acquiring the name of Urdu. In fact, it is considered to be the originator of Urdu and Hindi language. As more and more words are adopted from Sanskrit then it becomes Hindi language and when more and more words are adopted from Turkish, Persian and Arabic language then it becomes Urdu language. Both the languages are different from each other but founded by a single Prakrits language.

In tenth century, a significant number of peoples migrated and settled from Iran and Arabia to western coasts of Sindh down to Kerala, and some of them took risk of settling down in interior of Rajputana and the southern India. After dawn of Islam, traders and mystic leads Indians to a new social and philosophical vision of life. Soon Mohammad Bin Qasim, Mehmood Ghaznavi, Shahab Ud Deen Ghauri and their followers crossbred with locals, and a new language was introduced that was mashed up of local language and invaders language.

Nourishment of Urdu started in Punjab, and upper Southern India, around the cities of Gulbarga and around Hyderabad. Dutch, Arabic, Persian, French and Portuguese contributed a lot in the growth of Urdu vocabulary by introducing new words of fruits, dresses and religious places from their respective locals.

Poetry is a best way to express your thoughts; different ways are adopted to express feelings like prose, rhyming poetry in Urdu Literature. The main difference between prose writing and poetry is that, in prose writing, author express his deep thinking about anything whereas in poetry thoughts are usually comes from the heart and is a way of natural expression.

The development of Urdu poetry started in the thirteen century in subcontinent. In this era, famous poet Amir Khusro and Sufi saint Nizam Uddin Aulia made great contribution in Urdu poetry. As Urdu evolved in subcontinent, it was known as Hinduistani and later on famous with the name of Urdu language. There are different forms of Urdu poetry like Ghazals, Rubayee (Quatrain) Musnavi, Qaseeda and Marsiya. In early stage, most of the words of Persian language were used in Urdu poetry.

The writing style which is followed in the Urdu language today is the style of precursor poets and prose writer like Maulana Hali, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, and Muhammad Husain Azad made great contributions in Urdu literature.

It is essential for native Urdu speakers living in foreign countries to develop people’s interest about Urdu literature, its history and the contribution of renowned personalities who work for the development of Urdu language. One can accomplish this by giving proper Urdu classes to their new generation by considering Urdu as a compulsory subject.
