According to the Pew Hispanic Center more Hispanics were counted in states that have traditionally lower Hispanic population levels. These figures were revealed after the 2010 Census count.
The Census Bureau released figures for 33 states that they counted the population growth for. In overall population growth Hispanics made up 58% of that growth over the last decade. In those states the total count for Hispanics was 38.7 million, 590,000 more than was originally estimated. That equates to a 1.5% difference. Figures for other states will be released by the end of March according to the Census Bureau.
Remarkable was the fact that in 23 of 33 states the estimates were about 2% lower than the actual count. Compared to the overall population count and estimates, where the gap between estimates and count was less than 1%, this signifies growth of the Hispanic population compared to overall growth.
