Free Court Records: How, Why And Where To Search The Court Records
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

There comes a time in a persons life when they might need to search the free court records, even from a personal standpoint. If you are a business owner or someone responsible for the human resources department of a larger company, you may find yourself becoming a major expert at doing these very searches. There are only a few instances where you will not be able to access free court records both locally and nationally, and you do not have to be a professional to do it. You can find the exact type of court records that you need by using your favorite search engine and pulling up the state that the records are most likely to be in. For instance, if you were looking for the free court records of a resident of the state of Oklahoma, you would start by going to the court sites of that state. You can narrow your searches down once you get to the Oklahoma site by looking for the criminal or civil court records. In addition to searching free court records online, you can also do your search in person at the various court houses. To get started, locate the various sources for the free court records and then determine if you will be searching by name, location, date of offense, offense itself or another type of search criteria. As an example, pretend that you are in charge of hiring a small group of people. One of the names on your list has a red flag that comes up following a background check. You can search that name in the court records to see if anything else comes up during the search process. If you do find records, you will be able to see what the offenses might have been and the dates of the court appearances. As a business owner, you want to make sure that you are hiring people who are who they say they are. Every year, businesses across the nation lose millions of dollars in bad hires, not only because of criminal records but because of identity theft and other issues. You can reduce the chance of a bad hire by making sure that everyone you hire is really who they say they are. In addition, you might find the offense is not one that violates company policy and will have to make the decision of whether or not you should hire the applicant or not based on how the information was brought up. If it was revealed openly, then it should not be a problem but if the potential hire tried to cover it up or worse, lied about it, then it might be a bigger issue. There are some free court records that you cannot search, including those that have been ordered closed by the court and those that have been expunged from a person’s record.
