List Building Incentives- What Can I Offer To My New Subscribers?

When it comes to list building, you naturally need to be able to collect a name and certainly an email address. This will allow you to then send out the gift you have promised, as part of the incentive to gain that person's details in the first place. Now, at this point, some people tend to make a mistake that I am hopefully going to help you to avoid. Some people believe that it is OK to hand out a 'cheap' or junk gift, instead of a high quality product. Now, certainly, if you have enough visitors, it may not be a major issue, but I believe in both karma as well as basic business value.

I am referring to treating your clients with the respect they deserve. You will be rewarded in a number of ways, including but not limited to an increased retention rate of subscribers as well as people more likely to actually take you up on future offers. If you give great value gifts, you will also be able to actually attract more subscribers a well. The question that often is asked though, is what represents a suitable gift?

I will list some possibilities for you to consider as gifts below:

  • software
  • eBooks
  • Videos
  • Podcasts
  • Teleseminars
  • Webinars
  • Consultations
  • Free membership for a limited time
  • Even some physical items, like CD or DVD's with postage costs covered by the receiver.

I reckon there were a few ideas there you may not have thought about. However, these are important to consider as there can be much more than just a report or eBook to give away. Remember I was talking about quality products in return for a sign up.

In terms of the digital products, there is no limit on your time, and sign ups possible, but be a little more careful with something like a free consultation,. In this case, you may want to limit it to ten or fifteen minutes, with the option to pay for a complete consultation later. I think you can see where I am going with this one. However, consider the number of people that might consider this as a benefit of signing up. As a word of caution, you may want to put in an option to screen the consultations with a question form to select the best candidate to prevent your time being wasted if it was a popular offer. In this case, maybe have an alternative product in reserve to prevent people feeling cheated. All I want to really emphasis is to be genuine and give what you promise.

When creating and building your list, you want to use every technique that is legitimate to help you and these are ideas to consider. You may also want to put video on your squeeze page for added value and punch. It's all about creating an appealing page that encourages sign ups and that can be used to beat your competition.
