How to Get Started In the Real Estate Industry?

Becoming a real estate dealer isn’t as easy as it seems to be – it is a complicated task for many kinds of people and agencies; from government agencies to brokers; from customers to banks and many more. What are the eligibility requirements for being a real estate agent in the Philippines?

The Real Estate Service Law was introduced in the year 2009. In the pre-RESA era, all real estate brokers got their license from the Department of Trade and Industry. The law introduced a major change – it transferred the responsibility of the DTI to the hands of the Professional Regulation Commission or the PRC. The main requirements that a real estate agent should meet include:

The broker should hold atleast a bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized by the Commission on Higher Education.

He or she must have earned atleast 120 units of the CPE at an accredited real estate service training provider.

The person shouldn’t be a criminal convict and should hold good moral character.

His or her application must be approved by the PRC, after which the Board of Real Estate Service will provide him with a permit with which he can sit for the assessment.

The exam is held on a certain month every year with exam centers in all the important cities of the Philippines.

Some tips to keep in mind before considering the career:

The person should have the necessary skills to become a real estate broker and to pay heed to what the clients are asking for: Brokers should help their customers find the best home – a home that perfectly meets their needs. They should be trained and educated, research the latest trends in the markets, be able to communicate with clarity, invest a lot of time in their work, and embrace the boons of technology.

A network is essential – a must in today’s world of social media: A real estate agent must know how to build a good rapport with the community by getting to know new people and keeping in touch with their previous clients. For example, getting to know a loan officer and contacting him with the clients for information on loans in the Philippines. An online presence is a must especially through social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Lots of real estate agents are slowly taking blogging to extend their networks and communicate with the audience.
