The Difference Between Love And Infatuation?
Infatuation is an intense emotional feeling that can often be mistaken for love. Love is more of a friendship that involves a deeper emotional connection which is often expressed through sexuality while infatuation is more of a strong instant emotional attraction towards another. Infatuation will fade away in time regardless if a relationship is kindled or not. In this article, we will explain the main differences between love or infatuation.
What Exactly is Infatuation
Infatuation is defined as the feeling of lust of another person. Often, these feelings will create the desire to experience the other person in a sexual manner and release endorphins within your brain when you are around them. This feeling can often be mistaken for love which can lead to poor relationships and sometimes divorce.
Infatuation Science
When you are experiencing these feelings, what is actually happening is your hormone neurotransmission system telling your brain that this is a good feeling. Your body will release the chemicals, norepinephrine and dopamine, which will stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain. This reaction will increase the feelings of attraction towards that person and create an extreme form of what you would normally take as a normal attraction. You will experience feelings of elation, exhilaration and euphoria, along with an increase of energy and positive emotions during this process.
As expected, these chemical reactions will quickly wear off and cause a change in the relationship. This is why the large majority of relationships do not last and when a couple takes their relationship to quickly, they will find themselves in a poor marriage which often will lead to divorce. If you are experiencing these types of emotions, it is important to take it slow and make sure that your relationship will be able to last for the long run. It's rare to see a relationship improve over a long period of time. The normal relationship will either deteriorate or at best, remain constant over the course of many years.
What is Love?
True love takes time. More times than not, a person will mistake infatuation for love. This is often the case within the first few months of a relationship. The only true way to determine if your feelings are love or that of infatuation is with time. Over time, the feelings of infatuation will fade and it is at that time that you will be able to accurately see whether you are in a loving relationship or it was just a short term fling.
Bad Feelings are not Love
Feelings of jealousy, arrogance or anger are not feelings of love. If you experience these issues, it is likely that you are not actually in love but still in the infatuation phase. True love does not involve those feelings and does include feelings of kindness, warmth and friendship. Give your relationship time to grow, if the passion is still around after several months, you could be headed for true love.
If you are in a new relationship and are experiencing intense passionate feelings for that person, is important to take the time to discover how your truly feel. It is tough for someone to accurately determine their feelings while being hindered with the blinding sense of infatuation.
