Advice About Healthy Eating From Over 3000 Years Ago

Even more than 3,000 years ago humans faced the dilemma of whether to eat what was espoused by the rich and royalty to be healthy for you or to eat basic food that has nutritional value. Take the situation faced by Daniel "But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods. He wanted to be served and tested for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water, At the end of the ten days, he wanted to be compared to the other young men who are eating the king’s food. At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who had been eating the food assigned by the king. So after that, the attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine provided for the others.

It would be wise of us today to follow Daniel and not eat the food of "royalty" today - the big food companies. Don't fall victim to their advertisements that make their food seem the best for us by assuring us that they are "packaged" to accommodate our busy lives but still provide us with the necessary nutrients our bodies need. The use of whole foods - vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, grass-fed meats cannot be over emphasized as to what our bodies "need". We have to fight what our bodies "crave" because of all the chemical additives that make us addicts to those chemicals.

Eating the right foods, at the right times, in the right portions, and in the right combinations are crucial to maintaining a healthy body that is disease-free and full of vitality. It is important also to hydrate yourself with the proper amount of water each day, throughout the day for your organs to function properly. Since we were designed with 55% - 75% water, it would stand to reason that our organs, skin, and bones need to maintain this amount in order to function properly.

Unfortunately the beverage industry has convinced us with their advertising, and as a result of chemical additions, have addicted us to beverages that do not properly hydrate us, and in many cases dehydrate us. The challenge is to drink more water and less soda or processed fruit juices. Drinking water and green tea adds to the value of healthy whole food meals and again when done in the right portions, and the right time, and in the right combinations, maintains a healthy, vital body. I challenge you to find recipes and create menus for your week that will work for you and your individual family members' lifestyles.
