The Iberian pigs are specially bred so that their meat tastes delectable, which can be determined by the careful attention that is paid to their diet. They are mainly fed a diet of cereal and acorns until they are about 18 months old, and in the final 3 months of their lives they are fed acorns until they reach the (DO) specified weight of 160kgs. The regulations state that each pig must eat on average 6-7kg of acorns per day in order to comply with the regulations.
