How to Promote Your Business on Facebook

If you are thinking of using Facebook to promote your business, that's wonderful news! You will be among the more than 1 million websites that have decided to integrate their site with a business Facebook account. With Facebook by your side, you will soon be a global business. This is because Facebook is immensely popular all over the world with more than 20% from Asia, and a 41% Facebook user growth in Russia, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, and India. In fact, in Brazil, there are about 86,000 posts every month for the year 2012!

That being said, there are some simple ground rules you must observe before you get started. First of all, if you are using your personal Facebook page, respect your friends and family enough to not bombard them with your business ads. If you are planning to go all out with a massive campaign, it would be best to open a new Facebook account where you can get subscribers on board. Invite your personal network and let them decide instead of being blocked by them.

Second ground rule is to observe the etiquette of being on Facebook. Don't comment on every post and sneak in a little angle about your business venture. You could end up being tagged as a Facebook stalker or spammer. A good figure to keep in mind is that 57% of Facebook subscribers are female while only 42% are male. You might want to cut down on gender-specific language (like talking like a macho or pseudo-macho male because the chances are very high that even if your product is for men, women will see it.

Third rule is to make sure that if you post any links to your business or sites related to your business, make sure they are free from viruses.

Fourth, do make an effort to make your website mobile phone-friendly since about 488 Facebook active users access Facebook through their cell phones.

Now, let's move on to the business of promoting your business on Facebook.

It's important to choose a profile picture that is professional and not suggestive. You do not want to put off your half your target market by posting a profile photo that offends them. Thus, it's important to set-up your Facebook account with your target market in mind.

Once this is done, your job is getting the customers interested in your Facebook account. It's a gold mine out there and millions are spending hours leaving the Facebook account open in the hopes of being able to link with someone new of get new information about the rest of their world. Often they stay online to scoop everyone else and be the first to post something newsworthy.

Here are some additional guidelines:

1. Start small but think big. Create a Facebook Page. Do this by scrolling down to the bottom of your Facebook account. There you will see the link "Create A Page," click on it and set up your business page. Some of the most popular Facebook Pages are able to collect millions of fans everyday! This could be your situation eventually but for now, target a smaller number so you won't be frustrated.

2. Post interesting comments, photos or videos on your Facebook Page. Keep it alive and active. About 23% of Facebook users sign in to their account 5 or more times a day!

3. Avoid hard sell. Facebook is a social network site so people don't want to be bothered with too much intensity about one business. Try to keep it light and not only about selling. Be subliminal and be as interactive as possible. Engage your fans with tidbits they would like to hear. Answer their questions. Be social.

4. Finally, stick to your target market. It's easy to get sidetracked and lose sight of the reason you're on Facebook.

These are tips that only scratch the surface of the vast potential Facebook can do to help promote your business. You can refer to an expert to handle the marketing aspect if you're in a rush or sit back, work hard, research and keep updated. Sooner or later you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
