My previous article Developing a Marketing Plan, outlined the ground work needed to put a plan in place. It does take some work, however you will be better off doing it at the outset as you just build it in the later years.
Each marketing plan will be unique and tailored for the business. For a Startup business, the plan should be more detailed as the possibilities in the plan can be endless. This should not deter or daunt you in the task. Resources maybe limited but your vision and plans need not be.The more elaborate and detailed your plan is, the greater the success I believe will be achieved.
The marketing plan is like going into a battle field with a strategy, after looking at all scenarios. The plan could work out great and you will achieve victory, however if the plan which has been carefully thought out, does meets resistance, it has to be changed,so be prepared for that.
So here are my few tips how to implement the plan. You may not use all but this gives you a general idea.
1) Internet marketing or viral marketing is a great way. It is the way to get the attention of the masses and with all the new portals, word travels fast .
2) Social media sites and web marketing is the way to go. if your site catches the eye of a blogger or gets on twitter it spreads like wild fire, this can get you a lot of followers or customers.
3) Pay per click or banners in high traffic sites will also help to get interest in your product. It is said that a person has to see an ad more than three or fours times to tweak their interest.
4) Email marketing (do not spam) is another way, so get your segmented list together.
5) Get people curious enough to read your message. Get their attention
6) Be consistent or else you will never get ahead. It is said: try, try and you will succeed.
7) Remember the KISS principle, as the attention span of most people is very limited.
8) A happy customer is the best for getting repeat orders. Remember if your customer has any positive or negative comments address them. Do not hide them under the rug. Show empathy.
9) Thank your customer. This way you show your appreciation. I find this is the most important step as it shows you care and this will go a long way in the future.
10) Testimonials from satisfied customers are a great way of marketing your product.
11) Ask for referrals as referrals are your warm market and the chances of closing a sale are far greater than any cold call or advertisement.
12) Track your performance in different marketing areas
13) Try and combine your marketing with others to drive down costs
14) Your market should be the one you have targeted. Have a laser vision on that market and do not waver.
15) Your message and advertising should address different segments of the population. Do not use generic advertising. Be current in your marketing ideas.
16) Be always aware of your marketing budget and do not over spend as that is easy to do.
17) Start with baby steps initially.Remember a little drop of water is what makes the mighty ocean.
18) Make changes when changes are due. If you have tried a marketing strategy and it has not worked or produced results, maybe the strategy needs tweaking.
19) Celebrity endorsement is a sure way to light the fire under people to buy.
Remember that in all things when selling, Your Customer Comes First.
