Avoiding Divorce And Restoring Relationships

If your marriage has been in a rut and your goal is avoiding divorce and restoring your relationship I commend you for searching for help. You wouldn’t believe how many couples let pride and selfishness get in the way of rebuilding their relationship. Before they know it, they have so many differences and problems that have been unresolved that they give up on restoring their relationship and separate or divorce.

Your marriage might be just one solution or good day away from turning around and heading on the right path to restoration. You have probably had more bad days than good ones but don’t let that discouragement keep you down. Your past problems can be dealt with, forgiveness can be offered and accepted and a restored marriage and relationship can be a reality.

For a lot of couples there is usually that one final act of disrespect or broken trust that inflicts enough pain that giving up seems like the best option. If you have already crossed that breaking point you have a choice to make. Decide to give up on all of your dreams and hopes of living happily ever after or try a different approach and take a leap of faith that this time things might turn out different. I hope you have enough love and strength left to try one more time to save your marriage and restore your relationship.

One thing I must say regarding your relationship is that I trust that you or your children are not in any physical danger or severe psychological abuse. If there is any threat of harm being done then until that issue has been removed then I would have a hard time recommending that you stay in a dangerous situation. Get help from a local authority or agency before you attempt to restore your broken marriage. No one deserves to be abused and no relationship is worth restoring when abuse is at the center of it.

Now, once you make up in your mind that your relationship is worth restoring, why not spend a little time revisiting the past. Very often when there is so much pain in our lives we focus on the pain and our feelings rather than the underlying issues. Perhaps it’s been a while since you have given some thought to how you got into this rut. It definitely didn’t happen overnight. It might seem this way because when you are having marriage problems hours, days, weeks and months seem to fly by and life gets confusing and blurry.

I would suggest that you think back to the time when you were happily married. It might help to jot down the qualities about your marriage that made you happy. Once you do this exercise you can then move forward in time and think about when the things that used to make you happy, started to go away. You have an amazing long term memory so just relax, focus and think clearly. It might take a couple of days to complete but just keep writing stuff down as it comes to you.

Getting this list together will do two things. First, it will help you remember what a wonderful marriage you once had and can have again. Second, it will help you with mapping out exactly what you are missing in your marriage and what needs restoring in your relationship.

Avoiding divorce is a term that I don’t like to use. It has a negative connotation to it and should not be the goal that you set. Your goal is to restore, renew and rebuild a loving, trusting and healthy relationship and marriage.

There are so many different steps you can take in restoring your relationship. For example, some folks have some obstacles to deal with regarding communication, infidelity, anger or jealousy and control. I can say with absolute certainty that all problems can be overcome with the right plan, perspective and commitment.

I hope this gives you an idea and hope that you can save your marriage. Remember, it is possible to find help in marriage in avoiding divorce and restoring relationships.
