I am a creative junkie. I love creating the unexpected and seeing the look on my family and friends faces during the big reveal. My husband, on the other hand, enjoys an occasional creative project limited to his hobbies. Mr. cerebral and confident is generally not the overly-sentimental, mushy, creative type.
Last Valentine's Day, he truly delivered a whimsical, unexpected masterpiece. So much so that I am outing him by giving others a glimpse of the masterpiece he created. Pictured here is a super-duper, high quality, one of a kind piece of artwork handcrafted solely for my enjoyment. He created a Valentine's Day card that caught my creative senses off guard and sent my heart into a heightened state of flutter. He reassured me that under the right circumstance or occasion, with a little extra work, even a cerebral, confident husband can warm a wife's heart.
Characteristics of the Masterpiece
- The 13x14"card is constructed out of an old card board box with jagged edges still in tack (innovative!).
- The heart in the center (which represent his unending love for me) is cut from a worn manilla folder he found lying around the office (crafty!)
- My favorite is the aluminum cut out and the play on words using the word STEEL (masterful!).
- Also note the flower at the bottom. It was constructed from a purple, vinyl glove cut and assembled to look like a flower complete with cuttings from a brown paper bag for stems (ingenious!).
- The back of the card is artfully inscribed with his personal signature and logo (details matter!).
The thought, creativity and embellishments are admirable. This card might not appeal to all wives or its simplistic nature may seem trivial to some. But not this creative spirit. His attention to details and capturing the essence of who I am and what I need to see or hear is no trivial matter. I do not know how he pulled this off or when it was completed or even it he had help. Perhaps he worked late into the night while I slept in the next room. It matters not. All I can say is that I have a cherished keepsake that pales in comparison to the department store gifts (some) and cannot be duplicated. For that I am eternally grateful.
I hope that by sharing this story, some of you will become inspired to pick up a pair of scissors, find an old card board box and just maybe you to can watch a heart flutter.
Thanks Honey!
