Nobody could foreseen it, but it did happen. Travis Browne swallowed the bitter pill of defeat, after he lost the fight against Antonio Silva, at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 5.
The much anticipated fight between Hawaii’s, Travis “Hapa” Browne (13-1-1) and Brazilian Goliath, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (17-4-0), took place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 5th. This bout was the main event of the evening, featuring “Bigfoot” knocking out the “undefeated” Browne in the very first round.
The event was marked by the very first loss of the heavyweight Travis Browne in his professional MMA career.
And what led to Browne's demise?
Well, probably the fact that he didn't have two working legs during the fight, as he suffered a knee injury early in the match. The fact that the big and strong MMA fighter was not in shape Friday night was confirmed by famed MMA trainer Greg Jackson.
Jackson's MMA, where Browne trains, confirmed the knee injury following the event on Twitter, writing:
“@travisbrowneMMA blown out knee on first high kick! He will be back and stronger than ever! #warrior”
There is no doubt that this is very unfortunate moment for Browne in the biggest fight of his career. Currently, no technical details are revealed on his injury, but as soon as more info come to surface, updates will follow.
As for Antonio Silva, the MMA contestant who went through various MMA fights and he fought against the best fighters the MMA world has to offer (Cain Velasquez, Fedor Emelianenko, Fabricio Werdum, Andrei Arlovski, Daniel Cormier), even though with mixed fortunes, promised to do his best during the game-changing fight, saying:
"I respect all my opponents but inside the cage, I will hurt him because I was born to fight."
Although very few took Silva seriously, he did just as he said. But still, we can't be sure whether he hurt “Bigfoot” because he was born to fight or because his opponent had an injured knee.
However, now when the 'unsinkable' Travis Browne was defeated, we have to admit that if there is one fighter who knows how to come back from the pits (he lost two successive fights via stoppage) is Antonio Silva.
Nicknamed "Pezão" ("Bigfoot" in Portuguese), Silva really proved to be a talented, powerful and skilled MMA fighter, who knows how to make history. Let's note again that this fight makes Silva 17-4. While, Browne, on the other hand, is 13-1.
The combat was preceded by various previews and then followed by results and bonuses.
