Dan Henderson, who was obviously irritated by light heavyweight picture, has made it clear that his anger is not aimed at his long-time teammate and training partner, Chael Sonnen, but he is only disturbed by the UFC's decision to pair the middleweight in a TUF 17 round with Jon Jones.
For those living under a rock, last month Jones turned down a fight with Sonnen after Henderson pulled out of their scheduled title fight due to an injury, which led to a cancellation of UFC 15. Now, when he believes that Jones doesn't deserve the honor, he agreed to fight against Sonnen.
The big news about Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen encounter was officially confirmed and reported on October 16, 2012. Henderson's response to this announcement came Wednesday via Twitter.
"I guess I should just quit training to win fights and to be exciting for the fans and just go to s***-talking school," read the message that was meant for UFC president, Dana White.
Although Hendo was widely thought to get a chance to fight against Jones for the next light-heavyweight title, no one expected him to react so “fiercely” to the current situation. Especially because he is a long-time friend and training partner of Sonnen.
However, he took to the social networking site Twitter once again and cleared up that he has nothing personal against Sonnen, but he's mad at the fact that UFC didn't treat UFC as a professional sport.
Henderson tweeted the following: “Just to make it clear. I will always have love for Chael and don't blame him for saying yes to a big opportunity. But giving him that fight right now degrades the sport of MMA."
Besides, Henderson has every right to be upset bearing in mind that Sonnen has no wins at all in the UFC’s light heavyweight category, and has just lost a victory in a title fight at 185lbs.
While Hendo, on the other hand, has had four consecutive victories, since he got back to the light heavyweight (once even in heavyweight) rankings, dating back to 2008. He has won in 7 of 8 confrontations, his 2011 fight against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua was a “fight of the year” and ever since he has been a number 1 contender.
But still, all of the above doesn't change the fact that Sonnan got the TUF 17 fight against Jones, while Henderson is expressing his anger via Twitter.
