Aiight, you already know the basics. Hip Pop (Hop) has been here for a minute and the martial arts collective has been here ever since. The marriage between the two was inevitable. Nearly every country on earth boasts multiple martial traditions specific to their cultural identities. Hip Pop was inclusive of martial arts almost from its conception.
Long before the Wu Tang Clan incorporated the Kung Fu antics into their program, the break dance crews were including martial movements in their performance and practice sets. It was only the natural evolution for a culture so closely affiliated with violence. Chop Socky and Hip Hop merged because of familiarity and joint necessities.
Now that Hip Hop has become Hip Pop, incorporating pop culture into its mix, the attendant cultural baggage must be dealt with. The merger brought the global market right to the door step with media mechinations spewing out every ill themed product that will deliver the bank. Hip Hop, Pop, and Martial Arts are marketable because they are money for the enlightened.
Violence has been a part of human history since before Cain killed his brother Abel. Personal protection abilities are the common sense realities of life in any American Hoodz zone and in many of the worldwide brotherhoods. Don't know how to protect yourself and you can get 'stole' walking out your front door or killed on a humble. Knowing how to throw down is as necessary as breathing.
Look to most of the top selling films and CDs and note the use of violence. Our children are taught almost from birth that violence is a way of life. Check out the back in the day cartoons like 'Tom & Jerry or Roadrunner, Coyote, Bugs Bunny & Co.' and taste the pampered violence that spawned myriad destructive issues of today. It sho' ain't right, but it is 'The Real' that we must deal with, like it or not.
War is a fact that will be with us until the end of time. People fight, kill, and go on with the daily life struggles as a matter of routine. It's the normal way for the masses. Hip Pop reports about these daily issues through its entertainment vehicles, adding every flair possible for increased sales. Young minds and hearts are influenced greatly, sometimes fatally by this level of marketing and though tears may flow the world moves on.
With the discipline of continued martial studies creeping into the Hip Hop communities there is the emergence of new cultural products and better practicioners. The Asian Martial systems are adopting the Hip Pop culture through the choices of their youth. The internet now displays Hip Hop and Asian cultural marriages almost routinely.
Hip Pop is no doubt, here to stay. It is the cultural voice of our planet's youth. The Martial Arts have proven their longevity societal value and violence is just the 'bad uncle' relative that we must live with and try not to mention too much. All in all we have the ingredients for a gourmet recipe, enough to feed multitudes of success starved youth in search of true identities and happy lives.
'Seek and ye shall find.' Hip Pop Martial Arts are alive, well, and 'splodin' in your life in every media mad way. Welcome to the now of the future.
