Every fighter wants to have "power", strikes that can cripple or grabs that will crush. But power in hitting or striking is not completely based on strength. There are some extremely kickass fighters & martial artists out there that arent 'big bulky strong guys' that pack a deadly knockout punch, like Manny Pacquiao & Bruce Lee. & then you find other heavily muscular guys who cant knock anyone down.
This is because power in hitting isnt generated by how big & muscly your are or how much weight you can lift (or push), but by the driving force & speed of your fist, foot or elbow etc.
Power in punching - a punch with the arm alone isnt powerful enough, your whole body needs to be the driving force. Your feet, hips, shoulders & arms should all move as one, the arm is only used as the bearer of your unstoppable force. & with any punching your body must be balanced with your feet, most power is generated this way. Try to learn "balance in movement", & to keep your legs bent a little for power. There are many different exercises to help you more easily utilise your whole body.
Power in kicking - kicking has a few advantages over punching in my opinion. Your legs are longer & more powerful than your arms, infact a properly delivered kick is the most powerful blow you can execute. & kicks can be more difficult for your opponent to block or parry (especially low kicks like legs or groin). To generate maximum power in your kicks you need to be balanced & direct your weight behind the kick, its important to keep balance, even after you execute the kick. There are different techniques to generate power in different kicks, but snapping your hips, keeping your balance & thrusting your weight behind the kick are guidelines you can apply to all.
Power in gripping & pulling - correct weight training can increase your pulling power, but again with the right pulling (or jerking) speed it will have more power. Abdominal muscles play a part in your overall pulling aswell as your forearm muscles, but the forearm muscles are much more important than most people give them credit for. Strong forearms can attribute more power to your striking, grip & pulling power.
& allways use leverage to increase your power.
Overall, you can gain more power in many diffrent ways. From training with weights to refining your leverage technique & balance, it all makes you that much more powerful. There are some great training guides & programs that can help increase your power alot. There are also martial arts techniques that you dont need strength or power to use effectively
