This article will cover a few pointers towards maths for kids age 4 and how you can prepare them for the subject. At the end of the day children around the age of four are preforming maths even when they are away from their school books and desks. Various games and activities subtly improve their maths skills without them even knowing.
With maths for kids age 4, 'numbers' are always introduced early. Children learn everything to do with numbers by counting attractive objects and then examining results in a group. A really good way to do this is to introduce a simple board game to proceedings like 'Snakes and ladders'. With this type of board game children count the spaces they move after every roll of the dice.
Birthdays are pretty handy when it comes to maths for kids age 4. When the child's birthday approaches let them know how many days are left until the special day. The next day subtract one day and point this out to them - they'll be to excited to realize they are actually learning something.
Measurement plays a big part of maths for kids age 4. The simplest way is to ask the children who is the tallest in the class or the group. The kids will always have great fun standing back to back with each other and having an adult measure out who is the tallestt. Be aware though, you do not really want to introduce an element of competition to proceedings - some kids are naturally taller than others so there are no winners or losers.
Geometry is also introduced in maths for kids age 4. This is not as complex as it sounds because of everyday patterns. Children will always become aware of patterns in their own and their friends clothing. They can highlight geometry by reproduce patterns using paints and paint blocks for example.
With all maths for kids, analyzing data is one of the most important factors. Children are able to analyze objects by size and shape and then group them into simple charts and graphs. I used to find charts a very easy way to visualize mathematics when I was younger and I think this applies to a lot of children. Maths for kids age 4 is important as you do not want them going through their school years dreading the subject. Get in there early and make it fun and engaging.
