I was reading an article that got me really thinking about where we are at today with prescription drugs. The article stated that if production were to stop today we would be left with roughly 12 days supply on hand. It may be time to think about Natural Home remedies.
Do we not have a supply on hand?
We do, but according to experts most pharmacies only have access to about 12 days reserves. This is an alarming thought to someone who depends on their medication to stay alive. If we had a national disaster and the wheels of Government quit turning, what would we do to address this problem?
Does our government have a plan?
In my research I have not been able to find much information on what we as a country would do, but I have found some alarming facts about what would happen to the people.
Aside from the obvious results of people who absolutely need their prescription drugs to stay alive, the more disturbing aspect are the people who are on psychotropic drugs after withdrawal kicks in.
What kinds of things can we expect?
My biggest concern is people who are withdrawing from drugs taken for mental illness. May will develop psychotic breaks, or in other words a break from reality. This could lead to chaos in or daily lives and could create dangerous situations. Many people depend on their medicines. to stay in touch with reality, and to have them taken away all at once could have chilling effects.
What can be done about this?
Another search of the web resulted in no real information on this topic. Makes one wonder just what if any plan our government might have on hand. I feel that someplace in our government this has been discussed and some kind of response must be in place, but this is just speculation on my part, as I have not found any official information on this.
How about people hooked on prescription drugs?
This is a big concern going around today. have today's doctors and drug companies pushed the use of drugs to cure almost everything to the point of abuse? One has to wonder when all you hear anymore is use this drug for this and use this drug for that. many times the list of side effects is worse than the original symptoms they are tiring to treat. I wonder how many could be treated with home remedies?
I personally think that the world would become a very dangerous place for a bit, and the weak and ill would die. Many illnesses may disappear and the ones to survive will be going back to healthy food and healthy lifestyles. You would see the implementation of herbs and old pass me down home remedies for sure.

Some good points Shawn. Also, you raise great questions. I don't think anyone should count on the government to continue helping to provide prescriptions. I would like to see more people research some natural home remedies when ever possible.
Another good article, you represent my way of thinking too.
Good info Shawn...folks should understand prescriptions drugs and just not the cure all these companies like to make some believe...
Oh dear lord you have NO idea what you have just done brother!!
Oh Shawn, you just opened my favorite Pandora's Box. Here are some real and interesting stats: June 2010 British Medical Journal chronicled the doctors strike in Isreal in March 2010. Guess what happened when the doctors went on strike?? The national mortality rate went down! Not only that, the funeral parlor owners begged and pleaded with the doctors to return to work because it was 'putting a pinch' on their business. (The funeral parlor owners exact words) Oh, but it's not just Isreal. Let's go back a few years. In 1976, doctors in Bogota Columbia when on strike for 52 days. The death rate dropped by 35%. In 1973, LA docs went on strike, death rate dropped by 50%. LA docs went on strike again in 1976, death rate dropped by 18%. In 1999, Dr Ralph Moss, via The Journal of the American Medical Association published an article that stated that properly prescribed medicine killed 100,000 in the US alone in 1998. In 2001, The General Accounting office stated that 51.5% of all U.S. prescription drugs had to be relabeled because of serious adverse reactions. (Relabeled....but not pulled off the shelf....ain't that some sh*t) HMO's started in the 1980's in the US. It was to promise reasonable healthcare costs to everyone, streamline medicine, and minimize intervention. Well, that clearly has not happened. With the advent of all of our drugs and all of our surgery, our life expectancy in the US has increased by 1-3.5%, according to researachers John and Sonja McKinlay since 1900. A measly 1-3.5%. And, as has never, ever been seen before.....our life expectancy is now going down. If 'a pill for every ill' was in fact, good medicine, our life expectancy should be through the roof by now. But it's not. Would it be chaotic for a window of time, if there were no prescription meds? Absolutely. Especially with our patients on psychiatric meds, but.....statistics show we would be healthier, not sicker, with less intervention. So, Grandma, tell me 'bout the good ol' days.
Dr. Becky, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Those statistics are tragic. I wish people diagnosed with cancer would all take an alternative route. Well, at least do their due diligence. That's probably where the mortality rate is coming from. Chemo and radiation are barbaric. And I've never understood blood pressure medication and cholesterol medication when natural things work better. I've also never understood the why of stress tests and all the pet scans and ct scans. They're killing people with radiation. The insurance companies will get behind a lethal dose of drugs, but not a healthy vitamin C drip treatment.
It's crazy, isn't it? Chemo at $50,000 is covered; vit C drip at $300-500 not covered. Makes no sense. It will just take radicals like us to spread the word; share the facts; show the movies and start this healthy revolution! Thanks, Joan, for your thoughts. We can do it!!
Dear Shawn, Many of the people in the Family Islands, use what we call bush medicine to cure all sorts of illness in the Bahamas, this is a common practice, and in some cases they work better. Excellent article shawn.
Not in some cases Alfred, bush medicine in all cases work better. The prob is sometimes it has to hurt before it gets better and that where we as Americans lose it. We want a quik fix in a pill, and god forbid something hurt a tab we have to have a pill to fix that immeadiately!!
People who are on drugs for mental illness can experience the scariest. I know someone who was put on a drug for depression, has stopped taking the drug, and is going through h. In many cases, I think people will be better off using mother nature's drug store. I think we are being abused by the pharms for profit. That's not to say that lives are not being saved too with drugs. Have to be fair. Antibiotics really come in handy when not used willy nilly. Really don't know what the government has in mind. Thanks for the thought provoking article Shawn.
Interesting article and thoughts. I suspect drug companies and government will have plans in place, but how robust is another matter. Home remedies would no doubt return, but illnesses/conditions which have been eradicated or eased by drugs are also likely to return.
