How Do I Learn To Meditate?

Many will ask the question “How do I learn to meditate” without even realizing the answer is with them the entire time. The great thing about meditation is we don’t actually have to learn anything. There are tips and strategies to help facilitate it, but meditation is something we can do and always have been able to do at anytime we choose.

But over the years, life has gotten so fast paced, we don’t take the time for ourselves like we should anymore.

That’s why I suppose assisted meditation has become so popular and continues to grow. Combined with science, some of these systems can bring you into meditative states deeper and quicker, making it easier to enjoy meditation.

Guided Meditation

Guided meditation is pretty much as the title suggests. Very popular and beneficial for those who have know idea where to start, guided meditation walks the practitioner through the meditative session with soothing music and verbal instructions. One word of caution, though. when choosing a guided meditation program, how you feel and react to the narrators voice makes or breaks the program. You will never truly reach a state of relaxation if you can’t stand the sound of the voice you’re listening to. So if the program has sample tracks’ or even just individual tracks, try one. It’s better to spend $0.99 than, let’s say, $10 only to find out it doesn’t work for you. Available in CD or mp3 format, many of these programs are accessible immediately by downloading to your computer or mobile device.

Binaural Beat Meditation

Binaural beats have become very popular for its ease of use and scientific approach towards meditation. Two separate tones are played in each ear in compilation with soothing music or sounds, causing or brains to resonate in a frequency similar to different stages of meditation predetermined by the audio. This allows the practitioner to achieve and experience the benefits of meditation much quicker than traditional methods. Binaural beat meditation programs are also generally available as CDs and/or an audio download, making most of the programs available immediately.

Something to remember about binaural beats: There is one tone played in one ear and a second tone in the other. When listening to binaural beats, you will need to do so with stereo headphones to get the intended effect from the program.

Both guided and binaural beats are a great way to introduce yourself to the practice of meditation. Honesty, when I first was exploring the idea of the practice, I found my myself asking, how do I learn meditation? I, too, never knew I had the skills all along.

But these programs can still be a great way to get started and introduce yourself to meditation. I used a binaural beat program when I first started and it put me on a path I needed to be on to find what I needed to find for myself. I still use the program in conjunction with a traditional practice, expanding and enjoying my experience even more.
