If your looking for tips and techniques on how to meditate for beginners then you've come to the right place. I'd like to go over a couple beginner meditation tips that will help you get started today! If your thinking about starting or have been meditating for a little while, I hope that I can help you get started or continue on your path to success.

The first tip for how to meditate for beginners I'd like to highlight is breathing. It's probably the most important aspect of any beginner meditation routine, but can sometimes by the most overlooked. Meditation breathing encompasses a couple distinct steps. First the inhale: a deep breath is taken through the nose (imagine trying to fill your entire lungs with air), expanding the diaphragm, or pushing out the stomach helps for a deeper inhale. Next try and hold in the breath for a one count. Last, a brief exhale either through the nose or mouth. Whatever works for you!

It's that easy! Just remember to be fully conscious of your breath, so that you are absorbed into the moment. The first on the list of how to meditate for beginners.

Next up on how to meditate for beginners is posture, or pose. The usual meditation posture is a cross-legged position, similar to "Indian style" that you might have learned when you were a kid. Your back should also be very straight, however not so straight that it's uncomfortable. Just try and resemble the word dignity with your posture. Comfortable and relaxed, but straight. Hand placement is also key, but can vary a lot more. You hands are usually placed on your knees and can either be palm up or palm down. Palms up is usually better, because it allows for a better circulation of energy, but this can be implemented later. Another common hand placement is palms together in the prayer position with your thumbs pressed against your sternum.

Whichever position you choose is up to you! It's all based upon comfort and what's easiest for you.

Last on our list of how to meditate for beginners is...a common problem that plagues those who meditate, both new and old, thought overload! You may not know what this is, or you could have already experienced this! Either way, I'm here to help. This is usually encountered when you try to block out your thoughts too much when your meditating, instead of just letting them flow. Think of your thoughts as a waterfall; instead of blocking it with a dam use meditation as a tool to go behind the waterfall and watch your thoughts cascade on by. So, put simply don't engage your thoughts, just let them low by.

Also, if you are still overwhelmed by your thoughts. Just know that it will pass in time! Try to focus on your breathing whenever this happens and it will help pull your mind away from these overwhelming feelings. These tips on how to meditate for beginners should give you a great head start.

I hope my tips for how to meditate for beginners lead you on your way to meditation success! We covered breathing, posture, and a common meditation problem of 'thought overload'! I wish you the best in your meditation routine.
