Remembering your days is the most precious thing you can do for yourself, if you don't give yourself this gift all of those precious memories are lost. Think of when your elderly and have nothing to reflect on. What a pain! I am here to make sure this doesn't happen. I will give you various techniques that will help you.
Memory is a skill NOT a gift
People deemed with the gift of memorizing are not so special, they just USE their memories more and what you don't use, YOU LOSE. To remember the day—it's simple— practice remembering the day!
I understand you have troubles with this and that's why we have to start smart. We need to progressively get better at this process by activating our memories regularly. Start by trying to recall what you did 10 minutes ago. Not so hard now, is it? Can you remember the last hour? The last 5 hours? If not that is fine, go back to the furthest you can remember and stay at that level for a few days. Then try for more.
Another great exercise that is fun is to recall a movie you really love in as much detail as possible, or memories you really love such as a vacation. Do both and you will get good results!
Slap yourself out of the haze
Some people can not remember because they have a weak attention. They are literally living in a haze. Thankfully we can fix this! It's a simple solution— pay attention!
Like my last tip, this may require a progressive build up. Pay full attention for one minute, then two, then five, then ten. Just keep building up, a great thing about this is a natural side effect is it gets rid of unhappiness and being too "inside your head."
Use ancient wisdom
Back in ancient times they had very few books and resources so it was out of necessity they developed systems to memorize entire books. Luckily, we don't have to get our memory that advanced to remember our days. But we can use some of their knowledge!
We can dramatically simplify the system by creating visual cues and writing them down to recall at the end of the day. If you went surfing one day write "surf board" down and in a few days when you see "surf board" written on the paper, you will be magically able to recall many details of the experience.
If it is something you do often then select an image unique to that experience. Maybe you saw a whale, shark, crab. Just write whale, shark, or crab down instead.
