Famous People With Adhd – Great Examples Of How Adhd Can Actually Help

Famous people with ADHD come from every walk of life. Jamie Oliver is a famous British chef and he had ADHD as a child which does not seem to have to have stopped him in his tracks. Actually he has even met the former Prime Minister Tony Blair when he was in government and advised him on what school meals should contain. He is the perfect advocate for healthy food and is convinced that healthy eating has helped him to manage his own ADHD.

Another great example is Will Smith who actually had the chance to study at MIT but turned down a scholarship there! He says that he was never diagnosed as a child with ADHD but he was hyperactive and was the class clown. He had real problems in paying attention to teachers and what was going on in the class. Rap singer, actor and winner of many superb awards, he claims that he is the classic case of adult ADHD.

However, like most of the celebrities who have ADHD, he was able to exploit it to make a brilliant career. He claims that it was his hyperactivity that drove him and kept him motivated.

The Olympic swimming champion, Michael Phelps who was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. He had problems with both hyperactivity and paying attention in class. He was put on Ritalin for two years and then got fed up with it because he had to go to the school nurse to get his dose and this made him feel like a leper. But it was his great passion for sports and especially swimming that helped him to cope and manage without any medication.

This just points up the fact that sports and green rime activities are great for kids with ADHD. Everybody talks about how he manages to be hyper focused and of course, this is just one of the traits of people with ADHD. When they are really interested in something, they can focus on that one activity for hours. It really helps when you are pursuing a goal.

Another one of the famous people with ADHD is Chris Kaman (Los Angeles Clippers). He also took Ritalin for a number of years but over time, he discovered that it ruined his appetite and became rather thin. It was only later in life that he realized that he had been misdiagnosed and that his real problem was his brain which was in overdrive. Through cognitive behavioural therapy he was able to slow down his overactive brain.

As we have seen famous people with ADHD come from all walks of life. The one thing they have in common is that they were able to turn their defects to their own advantage and that is what is so inspiring about these personalities. It also shows us that ADHD is not a mental disorder but a mere difference.
