May it be a holistic and alternative medicine doctor, life coach or a psychiatrist, or anyone else licenced, capable and knowledgable of how to help you with your mental or emotional issues, you're gonna have to be careful with choosing whose client you'll be.
Curing yourself on mental and emotional planes is absolutely essential for being on your 100%, because both mental and emotional aspects of yourself affect a lot on what your life looks like. The process of clearing everything about yourself to yourself and understanding your subconsciousness can be long, challenging, yet, interesting and fulfilling. It's just a matter of finding the right person who'll be your ideal guide.
How to recognize a quality therapist?
There are some signs and hints of action, by which you can spot a therapist who really knows what he's doing and how to help you in a proper way.
- He will never offer the solution to your problems, he'll rather guide you to get to the conclusion on your own and make a decision yourself
- If he interprets a situation or gives his own opinion, he'll point out loud and clear that it's just his opinion, and that you can, but don't have to, agree with it
- He leaves you a freedom of choice in every situation and respects your free will
- He doesn't encourage an addictive relationship, and if that kind of relationship starts to emerge from side of the client, he'll talk openly about that problem and act with a goal of his complete independency
- He won't comment behaviours and personalities of other people involved in a problem witha goal to pander you and say you're the one who's right. If he'll start a conversation about other people, he'll do it in such way to respect their personality, understand their actions and so he doesn't negatively influence on their lives
- He'll put clear boundries, and in a deal with you, define rules of behaviour, mutual obligations and goals
- He'll say to you clearly that you can give up from working on yourself and your problem at any time, with prior conversation (it's always important for the relationships and situations that they 'close', either forever, or on long, or short period of time)
- In conversations and his work, he'll never 'invoke' any form of higher power, angels, spiritual guides, etc. He'll always demistify such terms and direct you on yourself. If a client insists on working with angels, spiritual guides or spiritual authorities, he'll clearly emphasize that it's a matter of their choice. Therapist will then decide if such way of working corresponds to him, or he'll recommend another therapist to you.
- He won't underestimate, assess, criticize, vilify, attack or do anything similar.
When making decisions, have in mind what you truly feel. Feelings, intuition, that voice inside will never trick you. After that think well about what you want and expect. If you feel like you should, look for advices and opinions of others (though, their experience and interpretation might have nothing to do with you, in the end). Use feelings and common sense. If you need time, take it, it's yours and you have a full right to it. If you don't want to do something, simply don't, you have that right, also. But, if you make a decision that you'll work on yourself, stand behind it with your full personal responsibility and give it the best shot.
It will be worth it.
